This is a very well run and managed site. During our stay we had the pleasure of witnessing a 'mixed group' attempting semi naked sleeping bag races across the kids play area whilst the rain came down in droves. Video camera's in hand they found it riotous and laughed their socks off in the process. This was naturally with the aid of a few tinnies before 5pm. By 9.30pm they were well oiled and fairly loud to be honest.

However a stern faced gentleman in a yellow jacket attended to their tent and advised them that they had 30 minutes to pack up and clear off! He was not intent on listening to pathetic excuses. Now that was justice.

So, if you want to go somewhere decent that tries to maintain standards for all, then this is the place. If on the other hand you want to let your hair down and annoy everyone else, then go elsewhere.

Facilities excellent and clean, plenty of hot water, staff accommodating and not in your face either. Pitches good condition. Some great walks locally.

This was our second time camping, we must have been spoilt rotten the 1st time because this site became a nightmare in comparison.

Booked in on a Thursday afternoon via reception which was very organised and friendly. Was shown to pitch also by a friendly warden, site large but not busy and we felt at ease.

We did the first night and then they came. Woke to a field crammed with tents on top of each other, barking dogs, noisy groups, noisy families inviting friends for the day, screaming kids with parents that didn't care how much noise they made.

In our large field for the men there were 3 urinals, 4 sit downs, 4 showers, 4 sinks and 2 basin rooms. Lack of litter bins on site, 2 only at entrance so people were shoving food remains in the toilet bins because they couldn't be bothered to walk to the entrance, this made the facilities smell.

The area itself is wonderful, a beautiful walk to Robin Hood's Bay through the farm's fields and a short drive to Whitby with a slightly longer drive to Scarborough. The village pub is adequate but the food is not fantastic, however, we heard the Victoria Inn at RHB was good although we didn't have time to try it.

In conclusion, a very lovely part of the country to visit but if you like the quiet life then don't stay here especially at weekends, however, it might be a different story mid-week but we're not going to take the risk. Then again the above is just the opinion of my wife and myself regarding the site and it may well be ideal for others.

My wife and I have just returned from an overnight trip to Middlewood Farm Holiday Park. It was the first trip in our Dandy folding camper. We found the staff at reception to be very helpful, (nice touch with the warden showing you to your pitch).

Despite the fact we are not experienced campers, we found this site to be excellent. Both regarding its location and the facilities, which we found to be great.

As noted by other reviews the 10 minute walk to Robin Hoods Bay is a real treat, although a torch is a MUST when returning home after the pubs have shut. (it really is only a ten minute walk)

A note about directions given via tomtom, when coming from Pickering, tomtom told us to turn right. I believe these are very narrow roads with very steep hills and not suitable for towing, even though our Dandy is small in comparison to a caravan. I would advise that you continue down the hill and follow the main road to the traffic lights at Whitby and turn right there.

A quick note about electric hook up, 25 meter may well be needed as some of the pitches are a distance from the hook up point (£30 deposit to borrow a cable), although only £1 per day actual cost.

In conclusion, my wife and I had a great time and would recommend this site.

Had a lovely time at this sight. The facilities are fabulous, cleaned hourly, spacious and modern. Every washing and cleaning facility available and no queues even though sight full. Lovely 10min walk to Robin Hoods Bay and beach which has a real holiday feel with plenty of local seafood on offer! Fantastic chippy but be prepared to queue as very popular. Lovely ice cream shop too! Nearer to the sight (5min walk) is a pub serving good food, nice beer garden, a well stocked shop and a very friendly bakers/butchers/pizzeria! lovely fresh bread, cooked meats and gorgeous home made pies.

Staff on sight could not be more helpful, always on hand without watching over you. Helped us with directions, flat battery, broken mallet etc!

Could carry on singing praise all day! Ten out of ten, would recommend to anyone (except large groups as they are not allowed which maintains space and peace and quiet!) Will certainly be returning

We camped here the first bank holiday in May, hence it was VERY busy! The good news - the location is fantastic, you can walk from the campsite through some fields & woods straight into Robin Hood's Bay village in about 10 mins. The views & location are fabulous. The toilet block & showers are really very nice, modern & clean with plenty of hot water. There is a great children's play area.

We were so close to our neighbours that it felt like being at a festival, there was no personal space to call our own. It was a bank holiday, but even so, it felt unpleasant. Beware - you are charged more if you have a big tent. You are also charged £1 for freezing your freezer blocks! There is a 2 night minimum stay. It is a working farm, so it is also a bit smelly from the cows, and as they are milked first thing in the morning, you are woken up very early by the noise from the mliking shed.

There is a quiet policy after 10pm, which is great for those of us with children, and it does seem to be enforced too.

Just returned from Middlewood Farm with my husband and son and we found the site well equipped and set out well with plenty of facilities. However although we had plenty of room for our camper, awning and car I felt like there were too many tents crammed into too small an area.

The pitch wardens were very available when setting up, however although there is a rule sheet given out stating people should be quiet between the hours of 11pm and 8am there was no one present to make sure they were being followed. I don't want to sound miserable but being woke up at 6.45am by a lot of people thinking that was a good time to start packing away is not right. I don't mind people staying up longer than 11pm which is a little early when your on hols as long as you are respectful and try and keep a bit quiet, which is hard in a tent but I draw the line at that time of the morning.

The farm itself was lovely, the area is right in the middle of countryside with about 15 mins walk to Robin hoods bay which although there isn't much to do there, it is a lovely area, and the icecream near the sea front is gorgeous. There is one fish and chip shop near the beach (Mariondale) which gets packed although when we went at 5.30 on the saturday night there were only about 5 people in the queue which was unusual.

All in all we enjoyed ourselves and would go again.

Middlewood is in an ideal location for cycling and walking around the coast. Downside:

Some pitches are subject to 'traffic' noise being part of a track junction and close to the facilities which it appears some campers feel a need to drive to each morning!

Pitch spacing is not managed to the recognised 6m rule we arrived back to find a tent pitched so close its pegs were touching our waste hog.

At bank holiday an additional field is opens which appears to hold over 100 tents this puts a strain on the loos and showers - we made do with what we had onboard but I do think that it’s unfair not to provide additional facilities it left a number of tent campers in a long queue each morning.

Upside:

The facilities are spotless cleaned regularly (outside bank holidays) and all staff friendly, helpful and watchful. Robin Hoods Bay and Beach are only a 10min bike ride away. The Great Griddler offers fantastic good value food on site - a nice change for the cook. Walk to the beach very enjoyable and picturesque. Great play area for children.

Despite a few niggles the site is certainly worth a visit and outside of bank holidays a very pleasant experience

This campsite is a very friendly, peaceful site with very picturesque views. Although there isn't a shop or a bar on site, the facilities they do have are of a very high standard.
The site has a lovely 10 - 15 mins walk through fields and woods to Robin Hoods Bay, where there are a few pubs and eateries, and is a quaint place that belongs in a storybook. The site is situated only a few mins drive away from Whitby which makes it an ideal location.
We would definitely recommend Middlewood Farm and will be visiting there again regularly.

We stopped at this site for 1 night at the end of March, we got rain, we got wind and even a smattering of snow on Sunday. In fact the only thing we didn't get was fog! That apart, we used our new Vango Diablo 600 for the first time and it withstood everything well.

The site was well set out, with probably the best toilet\shower block that I have been in for cleanliness, the pitch was dry and level. The owner told us the best place to pitch out of the wind and were helpful if you had any questions.

He fixed a snapped pole for the family opposite us as the wind was so, which I thought was impressive. There are electric hookups if you want them for a price. Our children are 15 and 10 and didn't bother with the play area, so can't comment on that. There is a small local shop nearby in the village and numerous pubs.

You can walk into Robin Hood's Bay from the site along an offroad track, which is good for young children, but it joins the main road at the end, which I guess would be pretty busy in summer.

There were only three of us mad enough to camp that weekend, but we had a good time, although cold.

We rang before we set of on Saturday morning of the Bank Holiday weekend, told if we arrived about lunch time should be fine, and we were, only just. Arrived about 1pm very little space left. Very full. An hour later we were told they were pointing people to other local sites.
The site was well organised, checked in at reception area, computerised and efficient. Then directed to larger field, which we had opted for, met by warden who took us to our spot. We had ample space around us, but there were a lot of tents there.
Facilities were excellent, clean and tidy. Showers, push button in cubicle gave you 5 mins of lovely hot water. About 6 showers and 6 toilets. Never saw a queue. Saw the Griddler van smelled good but did not need to use it.

Walked down the field path to Robin Hoods Bay, quite steep in places as stated not suitable for pushchairs or old people. Quite a walk as well, but good and well worth it. Village is beautiful, beach is amazing. Lovely quaint little shops and pubs.

Kiddies play park on site was good and lots of kids about. Also lots of dogs, all on leads and under control. Our lad and dog both had a brill time.

Short car drive to Whitby which was nice also.

I would certainly recommend this site and will probably return ourselves later in the year.
