July 2005 We visited this site on a hot July weekend and found the reception to be friendly and welcoming. They do not take bookings for tents unless you need an elec hook-up, and these are quickly taken. I did phone in advance and was assured by the site that they had not turned anyone away all season, but it was still a bit un-nerving driving from Merseyside without being able to book a pitch first.
Bear in mind this is a working farm, with all the accompanying sounds and smells. There is no shop on site, although I think you can get a few essentials from reception.
There are shops close by in any case. Although there does not appear to be a cash machine in the vicinity, if you pay for your stay by debit card, the reception will give you the option of taking ‘cash-back’.
The shower blocks were spotlessly clean. There are free hot showers with a seat in each cubicle. The hair dryer is operated with a 20p coin. You can freeze ice packs for 30p each, and borrow them for a £1 deposit. There is a small rustic children’s playground that kept our 4-year-old amused. A cycle track runs adjacent to the site and from the map would appear to run from Whitby to Scarborough. The site has a laundry with a washing machine operated by two £1 coins. Washing powder is available from the reception. There is a rack outside the shower block containing leaflets advertising all the local attractions.
A 15 minute stroll through farmer’s fields and a small wood takes you to the beautiful Robin Hoods Bay. There are two stiles and a very steeply stepped wooden bridge to navigate (the joiner has appeared to have missed out every second step). With restaurants, pubs, a café bar, chip shop and ice cream van you will not go hungry. The beach is dark and gritty and is best known for crabbing in its rock pools in low tide (a list of high tides are published at the camp site). This is an extremely picturesque village that more than makes up for any of the campsites limitations. The view of the coastline on a clear day is fantastic.
We will definitely be returning to Middlewood Farm

July 2005 There have been a few improvements to this already excellent site this year. The playground on the smaller 'family' field now has a better playing surface and a surrounding fence has been built. Some swings have also been added. It was good to see the site owner clear the playground at sundown. The shower block and dishwashing facilities are still up to a high standard but you may have to queue at peak times.
Our favourite site and in an excellent location. There is a decent pub with a play area a short walk away. Whitby, Scarborough and the North Yorks. Moors are also a short drive away.

April 2004 We stayed here, in April last year. The site was ok, though the grass could have done with cutting. Great gravel track, with grass to sides. Toilet blocks were great, showers hot and free. Fantastic walk down to the Robin Hoods Bay, though quite muddy when we went. Can't really fault this site and would stay again.

August 2004 Really pleasant site, great location 20 minutes walk down to Robin Hoods Bay, 5 minutes walk to local shop and pub which does nice food. Toilet block was clean. Would recommend this site and will probably return in the future.

August 2004 Just returned from this campsite and have to say we enjoyed ourselves. The site was clean and tidy. The toilets and shower were kept tidy. I even saw the owner cleaning them at midnight one night. All the staff were very friendly. I would recommend this site.

August 2004 We recently spent enjoyable couple of nights at this pleasant site. The owners were polite and made us feel welcome, the site was level but a little crowded.
The shower /toilet block was clean. There was a lovely walk into Robin Hoods Bay across pasture land and through a small wood (styles, steps and steep slope so not for all!) We would definitely return.

July 23-25 2004 I was pleasantly surprised with this site nice and clean, good views (in the large field) and a few good walks close by. The amenities are not miles away and although you do pass the skip area it didn`t smell at all when we were there.
The beach is just a 10 minute walk away over the fields but be warned it is downhill going but uphill coming back! There is a nice walk at the side of the site through a wooded area for dog owners.
The showers are free. Although it has many good points I do believe they try to fit too many tents on and you do feel a bit cramped. This is a "no booking" site so get there early, especially at weekends. It is a first come first served free for all for the pitches. I also thought the cost of Gazebo`s was quite steep at £6 a night. All in all a great little site that I will go to again.

June 04 Middlewood farm was a quiet and pleasent site, situated about 10 minutes walk from the beach. From the tent field you can get a nice view of the near-by country side. The toilets and showers were excellent, providing hot running water all the time. The childrens play park was small and older children would of quickly got bored. The site is in a great location for days out and would recommend people to go. When going on a Friday ensure that you are there early or you might not get a pitch.

June 2004 Just got back from this site and on the whole had a great time. As said before the showers were immaculate and the area was well kept and flat. Only a couple of grumbles - the cows stunk and were pretty loud at 4am and the position of the play area was not great as it was next to the road that went into the park which seemed quite daft as the rest of the field was a much safer area to put it. Lovely walk to the beach but not so great for those with pushchairs and certainly not accessable for disabled campers, would definatly go again oh and the food at the local pub was great all home cooked which was a nice treat!

We have just returned from Middlewood Farm and will be going back without a doubt, the facilities were absolutely fabulous, everything you need and very clean, good field for camping. There is a path from the campsite that takes you through woodland and into Robin Hoods Bay a delightful walk. Friendly staff, the best site we have ever visited
