Visited Saturday 6th one night with young family, Guided to pitch in top field by warden before we could get lost.
We did feel close to other tents some being only a few yards apart, Did ask how far they wanted us way from other tent, and told to 'pitch in the gap' In fact to close for my liking.
Shower block OK but well used and needed a clean when we arrived 2pm Saturday. And did get cleaned in the afternoon.
Night time 3.30am Sunday group still partying as they did most of the night no sign of warden till first thing in the morning far to late.
Noise and being crammed in was my parting feeling
We will not be returning which is a shame as this is a nice site in a good location.

Went for a 2 night stay last weekend at Middlewood with my wife and 2 children. (Second time camping).
GOOD POINTS
Hot water and showers, also has 2 mains points within toilets to plug your electic items, (but could do with more) toilets, pot wash area, good central area and had a burger van on site.
BAD POINTS
Very overcrowded they crammed tents everywhere, if there was a small area of grass left they would stick a two man tent on it whether it was in front of your door way or not. They also have 3 fields available to put tents on and if every field was full there would be a queue a mile long for the 6 ladies/mens toilets and for the showers.
But apart from all this don't let it put you off, I've been to worse and would probably go back but on the electric hook up part.

Just come back from 5 days @ Middlewood Farm with the family 4 adults and 1 child (12).
We generally enjoyed our stay, this was the first time with no hook up so we were pitched in with everyone on the top field and got used to using the grill for toast !
The Good Points
Hot showers, Helpful Staff, Nice location close to Robin Hoods Bay - agree with other person the walk gets steep on the way back so make sure you have good footware on.
Chocolate heaven was the wife and kids favourite place 'Chocolate fountain with Marshmellows and strawberrys'. Also had our Victorian styled photos shoot @ the memory box both in robin hoods bay Really Cool, not bad price also - very patient lady !
The fryer is also very good on site reasonably priced also.
The Bad
Too many tents (tightly packed in) next time would avoid weekends
Not enough shower and toilet facilities to accomodate busy periods ie 3 full fields
Too far to walk to toilets especially at night - if like me was in top field- wife wouldn't go on her own as there was no lighting until you got to the facilities !
No bins around site - you have to walk out of site to get to the main bin store for your rubbish.
We did like this site and would come back but only if we were in middle field, have hook up (close to facilities)

We were in pitch 8 for the tourers which was not dissimilar to camping on the A1 layby to be honest, all day and all night we had a steady stream of campers visiting the toilets, going the other way to the butty van and cars constantly in and out.
Site was clean but it seems the vast majority of children are running wild, in between caravans, knocking into cars etc. We were staying with friends who were in a tent, but while we could book in they couldn't.
Couldn't seem to get across to the office that we didn't want to make our way up there if our friends couldn't stay too - as its first come first served for the field. There was space as it turned out but not much. It left a bit of a bad taste.

The warden showed us were to pitch our tent I felt most of the tents in the top field were a bit close together. Overall really good campsite friendly staff clean toilet block good facilities.
Just a short stroll in to robin hoods bay where you can stroll along the beach and collect fossils. The bay hotel worth a visit just by the beach for a pint in the evening and the laurel inn. Lots of small shops in robin hoods bay to visit and take a stroll through the small cobble roads overall robin hoods bay gets 10/10.
Just a short drive away is whitby well worth a visit, lots to do, pier, shops, arcade, the abbey and lots and lots of fish and ship shops not too expensive. We also visited goathland not too far away the home of Heartbeat well worth a visit.

We stayed for 1 week in the family field. We were very surprised to find that the baby bathroom was a good 10 mins walk away very poor considering the had 2 private bathrooms that were unused.
The showers nearest the family field were at best luke warm but mainly cold even after several complaints were made. The great griddler served poor quality food.
The showers were cracked and dirty full of cobwebs don't go to this site expecting 5 star facilities only 9 mens showers for whole site lots of queueing. No shop on site its a 10 min walk to nearest which is excellent and has everything the owner is a really good man ask for anything he will get it.
The kids play area was too small and right next to the smelly barn no kids area in the family field for ball games. Overall very disappointed with this site should be a 3 star site at most.

Just returned from a 3 night stay with another family. The location of this site is really good. Only 10 minute walk into Robin Hoods Bay and really close to village of Fylingthorpe.
We were directed to our pitches on the bottom field with electric hook up and shown where to put our tents. After a couple of hours the campsite filled quite quickly and to our relief our pitches were in a good position.
We wouldn't have wanted to be in the centre of the main or top fields. Due to being very full the facilities were not adequate. The shower block in our field only had 5 showers in the ladies and 4 in the mens which did seem adequate until we went for a shower the following morning at 6.45am. It was getting busy and half an hour later and we would have been queueing out of the door. The overall cleanliness of these facilities was not the best.
People could have been more considerate and cleared their mess but we still feel the facilities should have been cleaned more often.
We would only return to this site if we didn't have to go at a peak time but due to taking children we probably won't return to the site again.

Very well sign posted. Clean toilet block, friendly staff. The surrounding area is great and has a bus route running within 5 mins walk from the site, with buses to Scarborough or whitby; don't expect to get a seat on Saturday morning going towards Scarborough though! it gets very busy as we found out. The Fylingdales Hotel is very good and located about 5 mins walk away; the food is great and they do good beer (theakstons hand pulled ales). Nice walks down to robin hoods bay are available, either along the roads or using footpaths across the countryside.
Negatives centre around noise at night, twice now I've been woken up on this site by people in adjacent tents making telephone calls to friends in the early hours (2.30 on this occasion). Unfortunately if some one chooses to do this there isn't much the site staff can do, however putting more distance between tents would be a start!
That said, we probably wouldn't have got a space if they'd limited the tent spaces, so I'd recommend camping here definitely, but take some ear plugs just in case you end up next to an idiot!

We arrived on the Friday afternoon & stayed 4 days. After reading their website, we were slightly disappointed. The warden directed us to pitch no.4 with EHU. The pitch wasn't deep enough & a little small, therefore we had to pitch side on. We have Outwell Minnesota 6 with extension.
Our pitch was behind a house & it felt like we were in someone’s back garden. On the 2nd day the old lady that lived in the house spoke to us from over the fence and said we'd encroached on to the next pitch (which we hadn’t). She told us we'd have to move our tent when the occupants of pitch 5 arrived! The lady wasn't very friendly and we felt we were being watched during our stay. After speaking with our neighbours on pitches 5 & 6 that arrived the day after we’d had our telling-off, it was apparent they'd had the same treatment.
We paid £29.50 per night for 2 adults, 2 kids, 1 dog. Very pricey & we didn't get to use the electric much because it kept tripping out. Pitches 4-6 have 10 amp trip switches but the main trip switch is only 10 amp, not 30 or over. This meant the electric tripped out when 2 or more pitches wanted to use their kettle at the same time.
After speaking with reception we got the impression that although we’d paid for electric, we weren’t really supposed to use it. Both mens & ladies shower / toilet blocks very clean & looked quite new. 3 showers in the ladies, 4 in the mens.
We didn’t queue for showers as we were up early, but queues were forming by 7.30am. Good hairdryer in the ladies which charged 20p. Showers were powerful but the water temperature fluctuated and was very cold at times.
Plenty of toilets & sinks. Washing up area was adequate. Small play area for kids which did get quite busy.
Overall an okay-ish-site, with flat pitches & only 10 minute walk to the beach. RHB is great for rock pooling & the kids loved it. The best thing about the site is the location and that’s what you pay for. In our opinion this is not 5 star.

Just returned from a two night stay at Middlewood and was very impressed and would certainly go back.
Great location in Robin Hood's Bay. The short 10 minute walk is steep coming back uphill but is well worth it.
Site is well sign posted coming from Whitby and we had no trouble at all finding it.
All the staff on reception were really friendly and helpful.
Facility to hire ice blocks £1 deposit and 30p per freeze - cannot take your own to be refrozen - was really useful.
When we arrived on the Thursday there were two fields with tents, and then on Friday two more fields filled up quickly with more tents.
Small children's play area gets very busy but there is lots of space for them to play in the fields.
Coastal path to Whitby is aprox 7 miles and took us 3 hours. It is very steep in places though so not for the faint hearted. The railway path is a lot gentler on the legs!
