We stayed 5 here nights in the last week of the school holidays just after the Bank Holiday. The welcome was business like and we were taken to a spot in which to camp and given very precise instructions about where to place our tent and that we must park in front of our tent rather than alongside. From what happened later, it was clear that this was less about keeping a safe distance between tents to eliminate fire risk, but more about ensuring the owners could pack in as many tents as possible.

This site has ample flat fields – lots of space for families to play ball games in for example, but they don’t seem to use it well. We were worried about the noise from other people, if they were camped so close, but in fact, as it got dark by 8. 30 ish there was very little noise.

We were camped by the hedge in the Main field and it turned out to be a quite sheltered spot, as it was certainly windier in the centre of the field. The facilities were fine, quite busy, but reasonably clean and we never had to queue for showers etc – although we had showers around 6. 00 pm when we came in from our day’s activities, and this is probably not the peak time.

We did not make use of the “Burger Van” but it was clearly well used and open at useful times. We saw the milk van come round around 10. 00 am but normally we had gone off before then. In the evenings we ate mainly in The Fylingdales pub – which provided excellent food and drink in our opinion – but not very cheap!

We were walking the final 4 sections of the Cleveland Way and found this site to be usefully located for that. There are very useful bus services from Skelton to Filey, one of which stops in Fylingthorpe itself.

We used a combination of our car and the buses and visited all the coast between Saltburn and Filey on foot. It was a fantastic few days walk. Cayton Bay looks to be a great beach.

Whitby was best for shopping and we ate a great Fish meal at the famous Magpie Café – arrive early to avoid huge queues. Robin Hood’s bay and Staithes were scenic fishing villages, Runswick bay was a great spot for fossil hunting.

Camped for 4 nights during Bank Holiday weekend. Campsite good, although thought was expensive for what there actually was. Great location.

Short & easy drive to Whitby. Nice walk to the fantastic Robin Hoods Bay, although very steep in places. Good and clean facilities, but they did get very busy when campsite was full, with quite a bit of queuing. But think would be fine during quieter times.

Friendly staff. Burger van and milk van were useful, but there is no shop on site. Couple of small playgrounds for kids, but can't leave kids to go on their own if not camping in family field.

Even though site got extremely busy, it was quiet late at night, with everybody adhering to the rules. We had lots of rain, but campsite held up well. Tent fields are all nice and flat.

Wardens make sure tents are pitched in organised manner.

Overall good site and would recommend, but thought on expensive side.

I was a bit doubtful about camping in Yorkshire but we had the most glorious week.

Wall to wall sunshine with only rain on the last day.

A big site - but it didn't feel crowded.

We have a large tent (Outwell Hartford Xll) which can be tricky to find a pitch for (+ car + trailer) However the groundsman had no difficulty in finding us a decent size space.

A bread/milk supply van did the rounds daily with a cheery smile.

A basic shop on site but also a small convenience store in the village a short walk away.

The shower block was clean and hot water plentiful as it was measured meaning that everyone got a decent wash.

There is also a small play area and an open field for ball games.

Robin Hood's Bay beach was a 10 minute walk away which our kids 9 and 5 managed easily enough.

The beach is glorious (but the tide needs to be out) crabs aplenty, fossils in the soft shale rock pools and lots of sand. The kids where easily entertained making a crab farm.

Plenty to do in the area - Whitby and Scarborough also with fantastic beaches.

A thoroughly good site - great for kids/families

Just had a fantastic first camping trip in our new tent with my (reluctant) wife and 2 children (6 and 4). We were shown to pitch area in a field with plenty of space for our 8 person tent with parking and our friends pitched alongside.

We could not book in advance so had to take a risk with a 3. 5 hour drive on bank holiday Sat morning. We arrived at opening time and there was no issue getting on. Others arrived later in the day and still got on and given tat every other site in the country I tried was fully booked was a great relief.

The washing facilities were vey good and there was hot water all day. They were always clean despite the large number of guests and there were very small (<5 min) queues for showers at worst.

There was a catering trailer on site serving breakfast which was good as we did not have cooking equipment or hookup on our pitch.

There was a village shop and great family friendy pub with outdoor play area (flyingdales inn) serving good food within a 5 minute walk from the site.

We had nice days out in Whitby where we all enjoyed playing in the amusement arcades, had great Fish and Chips and donkey rides on the beach and Scarborough, taking in the beautiful coastal scenery including the South Cliffs where The Royal is filmed and walking along the beach side with dramatic waves crashing in over the coastal walll.

From the site, it was a nice 10 min walk down to Robin Hoods Bay with good selection of cafes/pubs and large bay/beach with great rock pools for crab hunting when timed right with the tide.

I would recommend this site to families or other groups and hope that the other sites I would like to visit around the country are up to the same high standard.

On arrival, I was a bit disappointed with the site. As previously mentioned, the road in is rough and could do with being resurfaced. The pitches were quite close together and the caravan and awning had to be pitched on the hardcore and not on the grass.

We arrived bank holiday weekend, the site was very busy, some queuing for the showers and our location meant we had quite a lot of noise as people returned back to the site after the pub closed.

On a more positive note, after the bank holiday, it was quieter in the evening and less busy waiting for the showers. The newer block had generous modern hot showers.

The site had a washing machine-£2. 00 for which is cheap compared to other sites. Site was well situated-a ten minute walk to Robin Hood's bay which is lovely to wander through and we had a good meal at the Grovenor up at the top.

Five to ten minutes out of the site is a bus stop-£12 family ticket takes you to Scarborough return. There is also a pub near the bus stop- The fylingthorpe where we again had a good meal.

We have just returned from our 3 night break in our folding camper, and we think this campsite is superb. The staff we encountered were all very nice and pleasant.

The wardens showed you to your pitch and made sure that you didn't pitch too close to other tents. On the Friday the other field was prepared and has people packed up and left the field we were on, new arrivals were put in the other field.

We ended up with no one round us which was great. The grass was given a chance to recover too. We did the walk down through the 2 fields and the nature reserve twice a day and it was 10 mins.

It was fantastic and took you right into the Dock of Robin Hood's Bay, 3 great pubs that serve food. There is a great fish and chip shop that gets very busy.

The toilet block and showers are very good and clean, with free showers. The no noise after 10. 30pm was adhered to, and I was very surprised considering the amount of people on this site.

We did not have EH they were all booked up, and paid £20 for two adults per night. On the Sunday we asked for and extension to stop later than the 11am and paid an extra £3 to stay upto 6pm. We will be back, and I can't wait.

Apart from poor weather had lovely weekend here.

Lovely very clean facilities, and what was a big plus for us, all the room you wanted, no marked out pitches with everyone too close like some sites, great, and loads of space for children to run around, but not keen on letting children wander from caravan/tent area over to play area which is across back access road, through garden, to other camping field area and out of sight, so maybe a childrens play area at both sides would be great.

Also a much needed waste bin at pot area. Some people just leave food particles in sinks, and other items around when there's no bin available.

Tents can go either side, but sign at road entrance a bit misleading, some people may think there's only one camping field if you follow tent sign, when there are more than that at caravan side.

Van selling milk yoghurt eggs etc, comes around field on mornings and take away van morning and evening for those not wanting to cook too much. Great idea.

All in all though, lovely site, and will be back.

My wife and I have just returned from a weekend at this site. We pre-booked our pitch and an EHU pitch for our friends with a motor home. There was a deposit required which we were able to pay over the phone.

On arrival, the guy (John) on the reception was friendly and arranged a warden to show us to our pitch. The grass is nice and short and parking is permitted alongside your tent.

The toilet block is very clean and well maintained and coped well with what looked like a pretty full campsite. The showers are free and gave plentiful hot water.

The weather during our stay was terrible with thunderstorms, torrential rain and a good breeze, but the campsite didn't become too waterlogged or really muddy.

There is a double sided A4 sheet of site rules, which are mostly sensible. No noise after 22:30 (tell that to the nice guys who swore all night in the next tent).

The site affords spectacular views into the Bay and surrounding hills. There is a Railway walk into Robin Hoods Bay (10min) and a path to the beach(10min) and the local pub, the Fylingdales Inn, is a 5min walk and serves great ale and food. For anyone wanting superb out of this world food, book into the Wayfarer. Not cheap but amazing!

Robin Hoods Bay is a fantastic little fishing village with quaint houses nestled in the bay. A very steep road affords access, but may cause a problem for the less able bodied. Whitby is a 15min drive and is well worth a visit.

On the down side, the receptionist kept ringing my moblile phone to enquire about the arrival time of our friends with the motorhome, as the reception closed at 18:00 (no mention of this on the website). The campsite was also very crowded.

Possibly will return.

After reading reviews of the site I feel like we visited an entirely different place to the other reviewers.

The only member of staff I spoke to was sarcastic / rude and could benefit from attending a customer care course. The owners must be greedy putting tents, caravans and motor homes virtually on top of each other.

I would have said that to have any chance of a 'view' they should only have 50 units on this site as opposed to the 120 pitch one they have created. In all honesty the toilet block has the best views of some fields!

The owners should spend some of the profits they make on laying a tarmac path through the site to avoid the clay quagmire they expect visitors to walk / drive through after rainfall. After paying £46 for the minimum of 2 nights that we had to pay in advance, I don't expect to feel like I have attended Glastonbury for the weekend.

One plus point would be that Middlewood Farm has the perfect location for walking to the beautifully quaint Robin Hoods Bay. To conclude, I would definitely visit the area of Whitby / Robin Hoods Bay again - but would definitely NOT stay on this campsite.

This was our 3rd camping experience as a family ( 2 adults and 2 daughters 4+10) We tried two Scottish campsites for a couple of days last year. This year we were ready for trying a week !

We were not disappointed, a wonderfully located family friendly site. Facilities were spotless, Private bathroom and family washroom added bonuses.

We were on the family field EHU, great spot.

The site was quiet for the first half of the week, busied up near end ( think English schools finished up) Facilities still remained immaculate. Was still plenty of space for everyone.

Will be recommending this site to friends, and would definitely stay here again if visiting North Yorkshire.

Oh mustn't forget the burger van, which gave me a night off from cooking, quality of food was great !And not expensive.

Staff also very friendly. Think I have covered everything x
