Have just returned from a 5 night stay at this camp site over the end of May bank holiday weekend.

We arrived on the Thursday and were placed in the large lower field - first night was lovely - plenty of space between tents and a massive area in the middle for children to play but then the site began to fill up. 2 further fields were opened for the bank holiday and despite being asked to keep 3 metres between tents they seemed quite close.  I think however, the farmer was also trying to accommodate families camping together.  Having 2 1/2 year old twins the site did at times get a bit busy with cars going back and forth but this should be expected on a large site over a bank holiday.

The showers and toilet facilities were excellent and never seemed to get particularly dirty - however over the main bank holiday days there were always queues for the women's showers at the times I visited (men's according to my husband were better!) - also, queues for use of the washing up facilities - however, no queues for the toilets.

Playground on the upper field is not really suitable for under 5s - but older kids seemed to like it - it is a bit of a way from the lower field though if you need to keep an eye on your children.

Catering van at entrance to lower field was run by very friendly people and food was nice enough and good value - a bit of a treat when it was blowing a gale!  Also do breakfasts at weekends!

Personally no shop on site didn't really bother me but I guess for the price of the site you could expect one.

I have to say though I think it was an absolutely fantastic location particularly if you are lucky to get some nice weather.

Nice walk to Robin Hood's bay which my children were able to manage with some help - as previous reviews say though it is steep in places so wouldn't be suitable for people with limited mobility or buggies (unless super-duper off road things with a strong pusher!).

The site is also on the route of the Cleveland way which provides nice safe walks for small children and off road buggies.

One final positive for us was that despite the fact that it was wet when we packed up,  the site was well drained and we managed to pack up the trailer tent without having to battle to keep the mud off.

Overall, I would consider returning although at a quieter time which may be more about my personal preference than the site itself.

Fantastic site- cant wait to go back! The site has a lovely rural setting around a working farm. We were opposite the farm in a field that had hard standings & grass pitches and a big playing field.
Tents were pitched at the edges of this field and in another field behind the farm. This site had the best toilets we have seen so far! With a code to get in they are spacious and very clean with loads of hot water. A griddle van at the entrance of our field serves excellent breakfasts & evening food- we had brilliant 8oz steak, chips & trimmings for £5! You take a lovely 15 min walk through fields & woods to Robin Hoods bay- a perfect cobbled fishing village & beach with rock pools. We also loved the Fylingdales Inn in the village 10 mins walk away which had a circular turning pool table.

 Great site.

My new bolt hole! Great access via easy 8 mile bike ride to Whitby or slightly more challenging Scarborough! Robin Hoods bay is lovely and only 10min walk over a path. Take food with you though unless you are into unhealthy pub food.

Shop on site would be good and a toilet down the far end of tent field, but now I'm getting picky!

Thanks folks of Middlewood.

Camped here a few times since a child and returned with my own family.

A fantastic site, which is a little pricey as they don't have an on-site shop. A bit of a hike to the local pub - take a torch at night! But is a great family retreat.

Will definitely visit again this year!

What a fantastic site. Very clean toilet blocks and plenty of hot water. Lovely walk to the sea at Robin Hoods Bay across fields.
Lots of room on site, very child friendly. Will be returning for another visit soon.

Booked here because basically everywhere else was booked up (last minute) and was not disappointed. Thought it was a bit expensive £22.50 per night for tent, ehu, 2 adults, 1 child and a dog. Very nice camp site, extremely clean toilets and washing up area. We were in the top field opposite the reception, there was a new toilet block in the bottom field that the owner was very proud of (and rightly so).
There is a small play ground with four swings and a climbing frame. Ten min walk to the beach, no shop on site, but there is a post office, with every thing you might need, with in walking distance. People are very friendly. It is a very dog friendly area, close to whitby and scarborough. Will deffo be returning

Excellent site, good facilities and very helpful staff. Fantastic location, a short walk to the village with plenty of pubs/cafes/restaurants. Great place for walking and a very dog friendly area. We will certainly be visiting again.

Visited this site in Easter 2006, very impressed
facilities were good, site was nice and quiet, but the situation was great.
Almost right on coastal path, and walk into Whitby nearby along the course of an old railway.
Great pubs in Robin Hoods Bay, a short walk from the site, and also in Fylingthorpe, 2 mins away.
Meal portions were huge, and beer great!

This was our first 'run' in our newly acquired motorhome. The site seemed to be well laid out and we had no problems using the facilities. All areas were kept clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and helpful. Easy walking distance to Robin Hoods Bay town, local shops and pubs. A lovely area and the site we shall certainly revisit.

This is a very good site, well kept, weather fantastic.
But very expensive- a tent, 2 adults and 3 kids cost us £93 for 3 nights. The shower block was fantastic or would have been if all 6 showers were working and not only 2, this was the same in the gents and the ladies.

The site was so overcrowded it wasn't fun, tents were all but sat on top of each other. I have to say an element of greed comes to mind.
We will not be returning
