We have just spent 3 nights here and would definitely book again at this well-run caravan site.
We followed the directions from the A1 and found the site easily. It is conveniently positioned from the A1 but far enough away for no disturbance. In fact the only (welcome) disturbance was the church clock chiming the hours in the village.
The facilities are more than adequate and well maintained. The radio in the toilet block adds to the atmosphere, but is not intrusive into the rest of the site. Also the toilet block is heated, important when it is not summer weather. We felt secure in all aspects. There looked to be a very nice children's play area (although not used by us) and a games room.
The needs of dogs are well catered for, including a convenient dog walk in a developing orchard and a doggie shower (which we didn't try out).
The village of Greetham is close by (a few minutes in the car or a pleasant 10 minute walk). A family of ducks with their ducklings added to the fun in the village.
There is a small shop at the reception (which also has tourist information) and a small grocers/newsagents in the village. For more extensive choice there is a Co-op on the road going into Oakham as well as other supermarkets in Oakham itself.
Keep this a secret, but Rutland is a charming county, Greetham is a lovely village, Oakham is a market town full of character and Rutland water is full of its own interesting treasures.
There are 3 public houses in the village. The Black Horse was full for Sunday carvery, so we went to The Plough, good for character, service and good food; well worth a visit.
Do what we did and give this site a try; we don't think you will be disappointed.

We stayed here the weekend before Easter 2012. Good size pitch. Good shower block and family bathroom with a bath. Always nice and warm in the shower toilet blocks which was very welcome because the weather was not good. Daughters age four and two loved the park. Shop on site selling the necessities. There were plenty of pubs to choose from in the village which can be easily walked to. One of which sells fish and chips to eat in or take away.
Only down side was we had to go in the caravan field as there was no electric huck ups in the camping field. We would have been happier in the camping field as it was right next to the park.

We stayed two tents over a weekend in the family field. They were very flexible and helpful. Sorry to learn that the family camping field is to be turned into luxury log cabins and that that tents will be more expensive as electric hook ups. However this work will not start till after the summer, so make hay whilst the sun shines and make the most of this lovely campsite. Clean toilets, showers, family room. Lovely sized children's' play area. Tranquil area. Helpful staff. It was a bit hard to locate the site. Directions and a map on the website could be better as the postcode doesn't exist in satnav world. Short walk to village of Greetham. No problems with planes at all, despite friends warning us of this.

Agree with previous reviews about the cleanliness etc of the site. We only stayed for one night as passing through, but it's clearly well maintained.
One major gripe though - the cost being charged for Wifi internet connection. At £4 for an hour and £5 a day, this is exorbitant. I cannot see why it should not be included in the overall charge for facilities as the cost to the site owners is minimal. My tip? Go to the garden centre just outside the village towards Oakham - free WiFi available, which even extends to their car park.

Arrived at the site in a torrential downpour which turned into a blizzard which went on all day but there wasn't so much as a puddle anywhere on site, its very well drained.
The reception area is full of info on where to go etc and there's a shop with basic stuff on sale.
The wardens are friendly and helpful. And as other people have said you receive a discount card for one of the pubs in the village, unfortunately its the furthest one away form the site, we only managed to get to the plough which is the nearest one. There were plenty of ales and the food was very good and reasonably priced (£21 for 2 mains and a desert)
Oakham is about 5 mins away and has all the usual amenities including a Tesco

This is a big impersonal site.
The lady on reception wrote our pitch number upside down on the plan which she gave us and it caused some confusion as we were not shown to our pitch.
We disliked the unnecessarily very loud music/radio in the facility block which we found quite intrusive.
At the entrance to the site is what appears to be a rather smelly incinerator attached to an industrial unit. On the evening prior to our departure this chimney was emitting a lot of very black and smelly smoke which drifted over the park.
On arrival at our next destination we discovered that our precious new 'van was also covered in black oily dirt which took a lot of hot water and soap to remove.
We were disappointed with this site- its a great pity as Rutland is such a beautiful little county. The weather was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring around Rutland Water with its superb facilities

Just returned from a 3 night break at this campsite with my husband, dog and 2 children (aged 1 and 4).
On arrival at the site we received a warm, friendly welcome from the owners and were given a variety of information to help us enjoy our stay, including discount voucher for local pub.
Our pitch was spacious, the toilet block and showers were extremely clean and had plenty of hot water.
The children had a fantastic time at the playground which had excellent play equipment including ride on tractors and in the games room which had a variety of games/jigsaws.
The site dog walk was spacious but we thought that it was a shame that dogs had to remain on leads in this part of the park too.
It was a 5 min walk to the village where there were several pubs and a well stocked shop.
An excellent break.

Reception: Lovely couple who look after your every need, newspapers available.
Pitch: Hard standing, reasonable sized pitch, no TV hook up, but reception is excellent through status aerial. As other reviewers have said, this site is windy, very windy.
Facilities: There are two heated shower/toilet blocks, both are very clean and have lots of hot water. Not cleaned until midday, so no need to hurry.
Dog walk: Large dog walk on the outskirts of the site, plenty of space for the dog to run around.
Pubs: There are 3 pubs in the village, the nearest is The Plough, accessed down a small lane in a corner of the site, which sells 4 real ales and proper hot toddies, very welcome this time of year. Locals are very welcoming, and the pub is dog friendly. Did`nt visit the other two pubs but heard that they were also very good. One does take away fish and chips for under £4. 00.
Local Transport: There is a bus stop in the village which goes to Oakham one way and Melton Mowbray the other, but only every 2 hours. £4. 80 return to Melton which is quite a busy market town.
Play Area: There is a large play area at the top of the camping field which had plenty of things to keep children occupied.
All in all a nice site, very popular and it is open all year, but so windy. Great site for visiting Rutland water, local towns. For walkers, The Viking Way passes very close to the site.

This was our 1st time at tenting and what an excellent time we had. We arrived at the site and was amazed how clean and secure it is. My wife checked us in and was given a map of where our pitch was. You are also given a swipe card for the front gate.
The pitch was spacious and flat, quite hard ground though and did have trouble with our rubbish pegs. The facilities are very good and clean.
We drove to the lake (about 10 mins drive) and biked round for a few hours and returned to site, quick shower n walked into the local village.
There are 3 very nice local pubs serving food and very good beer/ale. I cannot recommend this site enough as a base for the lake.
We tented as a couple but is a very pleasant quiet family site. We will be returning definitely next year.
My ratings are solely on the amenities that were there at the time. (shower block (excellent) childs play area and reception ( well stocked and friendly staff.

Have just visited this site over the august bank holiday weekend. We had a great time & found it to be very family friendly, our kids, aged 4 & 8, loved the play area & making new mates playing cricket or rounders in the middle of the main camping area. Nice big & level pitches, loo's & showers always clean & the food outlet did a wide variety of stuff (not just chips) at reasonable prices & catered for vegetarians with some decent options.
The site has security cameras dotted around & the gate to the footpath to the village of Greetham is opened using the site barrier key.
Be warned that certain areas on the site are a little exposed & whilst the wind may seem like a gentle breeze on some pitches on others, it will blow your hat off!
We will be going back next year for sure.
