Lovely site with excellent facilities. Spacious pitches on level ground- avoid bunding area when pitching awning as, when wet, the soil is very claggy. Showers and toilets were clean and plentiful hot water providing all the showers weren't being used at once. Could hear the church bells from Greetham but it was not too intrusive. Slightly wind swept (hence the bunding now in place I think). Kids playground was a bit hit! Will visit again!

Absolutely gorgeous! We went here from Easter Monday to Saturday after having spent the Easter Weekend in Sherwood Forest, and it was a lovely place! The shower/toilet block was immaculate and the showers were superb! constant hot water that you could actually regulate so the kids could use them!! Lots of space 2 play areas now, and lots of space.
Laundry was really good as well, and the drier works well. the pot wash was always clean and the bins were emptied regular, also there are plenty of taps and waste/chemical water points. The wardens are very friendly - nothing is too much trouble! And because it was bank holiday there is a local lady that makes MASSIVE homemade cakes to sell in reception and free range eggs are available too, they advised they are looking to sell more fresh produce in the future IE bread milk etc.....the owner is friendly
An ice-cream van came round on a night! and a local butcher comes round on a Tuesday morning !
Just a lovely short walk into the corner of the field through the dog walk into the village where there's a well stocked post office that sells all sorts of everyday needs including alcohol. Over the road from that is a fantastic pub serving the best steak pie I have ever eaten and the best beer/lager that tastes like actual beer (not watered down muck) There's a big co-op with a garage just down the road, and it is next to cottesmore RAF base so my kids loved the harriers too, including hubby!
Rutland water is close by, although it seems quicker to go via Oakham than go back onto the A1 to get to it.
We all loved it here, its well placed for lots of things from taking a slow walk at Rutalnd Water and visiting the nature reserves to visiting the nearby space centre at leicester or Duxford air museum, there's too many to mention - We WILL be going back!

Went here as a getaway for 5 days in October with tent and motorhome. Weather was surprisingly good, and although the site got a little muddy, drainage is good.
Site is a little basic, but the local village is nice, and the free showers are good and hot. Only real minor issue would be with the access roads which are deep gravel and thus hard to ride a bike etc on. This probably explains the earlier comment about kids riding toys around the perimiter of the toilet block (which they did also when we were there) as there is nowhere else suitable.
Be interested to see the extension area, which was coming along nicely when we were there. No problems with the noise for us - and our kids loved the harriers just up the road.

We've just returned from a wonderful weekend here and have nothing but high praise for both the site and its owners. We arrived after dark having originally planned to pitch at another site which despite advertising year-round opening shuts down in September. Over the intercom at the gate we were given the access code and told to pitch whilst the owner made his way to us. There was plenty of space and despite the rocky ground we were pitched in record time. The owner arrived within about 20 minutes and told us of the shortcut to the village and even offered to lend us his torch!
The site was very quiet (church bells weren't too bad) and the toilet facilities superb, some of the best we've come across. We would recommend this site to anyone and will certainly be going back ourselves.

We found this site to be an excellent place for a quite weekend break with Rutland water near by for walks and boat trips around Rutland waters lake. The camp site was very clean and tidy with excellent toilets and shower block which was always clean and tidy.
The only thing we did'nt like was that people with small and med sized kiddies were allowed to ride bikes, tractors ect on the path way around the toilet block, which we found to be rather dangerous!! as when you stepped out from the block you were nearly run down by kiddies riding round and round the toilet block having GT FUN!!! This should NOT be allowed!
The people on site were very pleasent and friendly also very helpful. We will be going back again as it was a lovely site and village, with plenty of places to visit and the pubs in the village serve wonderful home cooked food

This was a very clean & well kept site. We stayed for a week & had the tent field to ourselves for most of that. The toilet block was immaculate, even down to antibacterial soap at the washbasins. They were a little far away from the tent field tho & there isn't much lighting.A good play area for the kids, which they are planning to make better for older kids too. There are laundry facilities too, but only 1 washer & 1 dryer, so you're stuck if it's busy.
The wardens are very friendly, although the reception is not upto much at the minute, but all said & done this is a lovely site & we would deffinately use it again.

We were the first of our party of 3 tents to arrive at 7.15 on Friday night. Plenty of space in the tent field, and we chose to pitch near the entrance so as to be closer to the loos which were in the middle of the caravan field. We were about 50 yards away which I didnt think too far and I think they are planning on building a second toilet block as well. Sadly the last of our party didnt arrive until 9.45. They pitched their tent whilst we were happily feeding our faces in The Plough (excellant value). They hadn't been told by the warden of the shortcut to the village so expected to have to walk back the way you drive in, which would be about a 20 min walk along an unlit road, instead of the 5 mins down the lane (torches helpful after dark). So they didnt join us in the pub and opted for an early night. On discovery of the shortcut the next day, they were disappointed that they hadnt been told about it on arrival as they woud have come down.
Toilets and showers fairly clean and free plentiful hot water in the showers.
Was close to Rutland Water which was a really enjoyable day out - we hired bikes and cycled the 23 miles perimeter and were ready for a good feed when we got back. We tried to get in at the Black Horse which looked like more of a gastro-pub with very tempting menu, but alas, no room at the inn. So we went over the road to the Wheatsheaf - much more traditional pub food but very good never the less.
Overall I consider it a pretty good site and would recommend it - church bells could be heard but didn't disturb any of the 6 of us.

July 2005 I visited this site on a rather wet weekend but the tent field, where we were situated, was not muddy at all. This probably had a lot to do with the rocky ground which made pitching rather difficult (we will need new pegs for our next holiday!) However, when we arrived on friday morning the tent field was empty and we could ptich our group of three tents side by side. By saturday night the entire perimetre of the field was being used but there was still lots of room in the centre where people were playing ball games and flying toy planes (!?).
Facilities - security seems to be very good on the site with (apparently) CCTV, an electric gate and a code locked toilet block. The toilet block is too small for the site (only 3 toilets and 3 showers!) but were kept very clean. There are also only 2 wash up sinks. A second toilet block is being planned and the site staff were eager for suggestions from guests.
The receptionist is very friendly and you can buy food stuffs, calor gasses, etc etc at reception (you also get a complimentary bin bag and pen on arrival!) Ice blocks can be frozen for a very reasonable 10p!
The village - The church bells are quite annoying but if the villagers can stand it, so can we. Pubs are great - between us we visited all three and each one was very nice. We probably favoured the Blackhorse though. Remember your torch because the 5 min walk to the village is through a wooded area and it is very dark at night (in fact, you'll need your torch to get from your tent to the toilets as the site is also very dark at night despite some little solar lights sticking out of the hedge!) Lastly, don't rely on the village for any shopping you need - there is only a little post office. The nearest supermarket seems to be a co-op just outside Oakham.
In conclusion, this was a good site which suffered only from the inadequate toilet block and rocky ground.

July 2005 I write this review having just returned from the site and not having looked at any other reviews, in the name of fairness!
We were tenting and arrived on Friday 15th July. The receptionist was a little brusque, I think she possibly viewed it as humorous. No pitches were specifically allocated - we were directed to a field and left to pitch wherever was vacant. There were rocks all over the place (just under the surface) which made pitching frustrating. On Friday, there wasn't an issue as there was plenty of space. By the time we returned on Saturday, our car parking space had been 'pitched' on and the whole place was packed. Frankly the field was filled to the point of being chaotic and still people were arriving.
The site boasts 3 AA stars - not quite sure how. The toilet and shower facilities are clean and adequate. They are a long way from the tent field. There is a definate bias towards the caravan field when it comes to facilities.
We were kept awake on Sunday morning (3-4 am) with music reverberating around the site. There is no shop to mention, the childrens play area is geared towards toddlers.
Overall, this is a new site and the village of Greetham is lovely - especially the Plough pub - food absolutely magnificent and Old Rosie on draught. The site should improve and I wish them well with it. I'll give it another shot next year and hope that the many issues that currently exist have been resolved by then.
