We found this site to be very well presented & maintained, upon arrival we where greeted by the wardens, who were very friendly & helpful. This is quite a large site, but quite quiet when we were there, although we were in the 'family' field.

The toilet / shower block was very clean & well presented, (although closed for 1 hour for cleaning) was available at all other times, (a second toilet block is located in the adjacent field)

We would definitely return to this site if we are going to that area again

This site is ideally located next to a lovely village, and is certainly worth a visit. The area has excellent walks and pubs, and the surrounding area is beautiful. The upgrading of the site facilities is well done, especially the new pool. The site in general is very good let down by a couple of areas that badly need attention, the play area with long slide is in need of refurbishment and the area near this and behind the new lodges is just an untidy mess, certainly not the best view for a couple of the (quite expensive) lodges.

A previous reviewer had booked months in advance but were not given the area they had specifically requested, the same thing happened to us. 'We don't know how that happened' was the sole response. Staff seemed happy enough, site was almost completely litter free, so well done to staff and visitors during our stay.

As previously stated the site is very good in most parts, which makes it difficult to understand why the (relatively minor) couple of points that need attention seem to have been overlooked for so long.

This would be an amazing site with one or two fixes.

It's tidy, and the pitch we had was roomy (although we had to shift two picnic benches before we got started).

We were pitched in the family area with our two children and had friends on the pitch next to us. There is a separate adult only area that we ventured into once when our toilet block was being cleaned. There are three rows of pitches around a ball green. Mostly caravans.

When arriving we were welcomed and told where to pitch, the reception area seemed well resourced. We went to find our pitch, our friends arrived 10 minutes later and had every rule and regulation read out to them, including some rather excessive ones such as 'no kites'.

The toilet/shower/pot washing block was next to reception, and we felt was a tad too far from our pitch. As I kept saying 'the furthest of any site we have camped at'. Bins and toilet waste were also in the same area.

I found the showers to be warm, clean and powerful, but I shower early in the morning and strangely used the same cubicle every day. My friend said she had varying temperatures and water pressure as did my daughters. The toilets and sinks were clean although one day I had to pass toilet paper under the door of the neighbouring one that didn't have any. Only once though.

There was no drainage at the drinking water taps. Not a problem for us.

We kept to every rule, one of which was 'absolute' quiet after 11pm. Our friends were told the wardens patrol to enforce the rules. However, for three out of our five nights the group of two tents behind us were very noisy until close to midnight, really noisy with some unsavoury language. Also alongside our friends tent, I found dog poo (inside their guide ropes), then more poo was found on the ball green. We didn't get a great response when letting the wardens know about the noise or the dog poo, very much a 'it's a campsite, what do you expect' reply. Not very helpful.

The village is very pretty and there is a lovely path at the back of the site leading into the village. There are three pubs and a post office. We ate luch after packing our tent away on our last day, before saying goodbye to our friends, at the The Black Horse. Not the nicest to look at from the outside, but a fabulous menu at very affordable prices. We will seek out the pub again.

The site felt very secure with card keys for access. There was a well equipped park and games room for children to use.

Visited this site numerous times over the past 5 years with our grand-children. All the wardens are new this time but they were very helpful when trying to book for the Whitsun school holidays (unfortunately they are fully booked for the dates we required). The new swimming pool is very nice but its just to swim (sole use at £15 for up to 10 people is very reasonable but £4 each adult and £2. 50 each child (2 OAPs and 2 children aged 6 and 9 = £13) is a bit steep for 1/2 an hour in the pool). In both the male & female changing rooms there are 2 cubicles with curtains but no hooks or anything to put your clothes on except the floor which was wet from the previous user or you can use the open area where there are 2 benches but if another family is using it at the same time there is no privacy. Also the 2 showers were cold. We won't be using it again. Otherwise can't fault the site.

Just returned from a lovely Easter break at this site. Good sized pitches which were either gravel or grass. We had asked to be near the play area, although it was actually out of site of the pitches. The kids enjoyed the sanded area with climbing/swing/slide equipment. There were also some old play houses/kitchens that left a lot to be desired and looked like they needed scrapping. Inside these were some very large rocks on a wobbly shelf. We discarded the rocks as could see an accident waiting to happen. The new swimming pool was fab! Changing rooms super warm, as was the water. The only negative here was the price of£15 for 30minute swim for 2 adults and 3 kids. An hour or at least 45 minutes would be more realistic for the price. We were put off by this and didn't use again, although a lovely pool. We loved the large field in the centre of site. Full'of families having a great time when the sun eventually shone. The staff here were very friendly and informative both on booking and arrival.

We found the facilities very clean and tidy and changing areas warm and fully equipped. Even had a family room with a bath.

We ate our Sunday dinner athe plough pub in the village nearby, and I have to say it was the best Sunday roast I've ever had in a pub!

We will definitely use this site again over the summer. Really enjoyed our stay

My wife and I just returned from five nights at Rutland. Nice peaceful site with friendly staff. The pitches are spacious and level. The amenities are excellent with clean and warm toilet block. We were on the family site but as kids were at school it was very quiet. The village is just 10 minutes away there are three pubs but found The Plough most to our liking as it is very dog friendly. Will definitely visit again.

Lovely site with large pitches, some of which are super pitches with their own water tap, drainage. Has an Adults only part to the site and a children's play area at the opposite end of the site. This site is Caravan club affiliated so non members of the Caravan club are welcome for a nominal fee of £1. The shower and toilet blocks were clean and there was always plenty of hot water at no extra charge. There is also swimming pool on site too. Staff were pleasant and helpful. You can walk from the site into the village. You have to leave a £10 deposit for the barrier card and if you do want to walk into the village, you need to take the barrier card with you to access the gate. There is also a large rally field. The whole site was clean and neat and tidy. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead. There is a dog walk area too. We enjoyed out stay here and would come again. Price for one night for 2 adults and one dog was £16. 60 plus £1. 00 for non membership of Caravan club.

My husband and I have just returned home from a lovely 5 night break. I would definitely recommend this site. We were in the adult only side, it was lovely and quite. The toilet block always was clean with lashings of hot water The pitches were very large. The wardens were very helpful. Will definitely be back very soon. Keep up the good work and see you soon.

My wife and I are new to motor homing and rented a Chausson to get experience of this sort of holiday, and booked in to Rutland for two nights. We really liked the site. Access from Oakham though is along the B668 through Cottesmore and then through Greetham and then out to a left turning, past the stone quarry and then back into the site. In effect the road loops around the village and you enter the site to the north.

The site is spacious and we were in the family end with a fair few children playing on the grass. The adult only field seemed quieter. The loos and showers were very clean and warm with lots of hot water. The dog washing facility was excellent for us having a small Border Terrier. We enjoyed the dog walking area too.

The Reception staff were a tad po faced for us, but helpful enough when asked questions. Bread could be ordered along with papers and general provisions. We will certainly return.

There is a secure, short walk into the village and we ate at the Plough which was warm and welcoming. The Wheatsheaf appears a bit more upmarket with its food. We ONLY had a drink there and simply observed the food, which looked very good.

Barnsdale is a few miles away and the lovely Rutland water was a delight and it was easy to park the motorhome there. Oakham was pleasant too. All in all a very good weekend for a pair of newbies.
