This is one of our favourite sites - we've visited 3 times within the last year, twice in the last couple of months.
It's very conveniently located a few minutes' walk from the village of Greetham (worth a visit to the lovely CAMRA pub with good food, and a good general stores / post office too), and is just a few miles from Rutland Water, Geoff Hamilton's lovely Barnsdale Gardens, a Falconry centre, gorgeous villages and the pleasant town of Oakham 6 miles away (all the shops you could need, supermarkets and motorhome parking).
There is good value motorhome parking at any of the Anglian Water carparks - most expensive time of year is only £3 for all day parking and your ticket covers you if you move from one to another. The cycle route round Rutland is good fun and there is bike hire (good bikes) either at Whitwell Bay or Normanton.
The Finch Inn at Hambleton is good for a lunch or dinner stop. Horse and Jockey at Manton is also popular (can be a little unfriendly though). If you want to splash out for a special occasion, Barnsdale Lodge has an excellent restaurant. And don't miss Hambleton bakery a couple of miles from the campsite on the road towards Rutland Water (signpsted Exton) for mouth watering bread, home made pasta and preserves.
The campsite itself is beautifully run, with an adults only section and a large family section in separate fields, with sandpit play areas, etc. Two big toilet/shower blocks, with key locks for security. Always spotless, although this time round there was a little odour from the drains, but we haven't experienced that before so was probably just due to the heat and drought.
Good hardstandings, plenty of EHU, very good value. We'll keep on coming.

This site is located on the outskirts of Greetham near Oakham and Rutland Water. It is privately owned but affiliated to the Caravan Club and is open all the year round. Follow the brown signs off the B668 rather than satnav.
Earliest arrival time is 12 noon and departures also 12 noon. However for £1 a person extra you can stay until 4pm provided they are not fully booked which is a useful facility to extend your holiday
The wardens are very welcoming and gave a clear explanation of facilities.
There are 190 touring pitches for caravans and tents with a mixture of grass and hardstandings. The site is divided into four separate areas, for adults only in caravans, families in caravans, families in tents and a rally field with 36 pitches. Pitches are reasonably level so you may not need levelling blocks.
Site security is maintained through a vehicle barrier on entry and exit controlled by an electronic card.
There are two heated toilet blocks with good showers, WCs and privacy cubicles. Also a disabled bathroom, washing up / vegetable preparation area and laundry facilities. One of the blocks is in the adult’s only section and the other in the family section. The toilet blocks were kept very clean and you can listen to local radio whilst you have your shower.
Service points around the site for water and rubbish disposal. Also chemical disposal facilities. Recycling facilities for bottles, cans, paper and cardboard.
TV reception is good plus wi-fi available for £5 a day or £10 a week.
Extensive dog walk adjacent the site. Big children’s play area with equipment in the family area.
Reception stocks a range of basic goods and Greetham village is about 5 minutes walk with a Post Office / village stores stocking a wide range of goods plus lovely home-made cakes. The nearest supermarket is the Co-op on the outskirts of Oakham about 8 miles away. Greetham has three pubs all serving food.
We paid £20.20 per night for standard hardstanding pitch with 16 amp electrical hook-up, caravan, awning and two adults.
Local attractions include:
• Rutland Water for walking, cycling, fishing or going on a pleasure boat. You can hire bikes on site and the trip around the reservoir is 25 miles (about 8 miles from caravan site).
• Barnsdale Gardens created by the late Geoff Hamilton, the gardener’s gardener. See the small gardens he created for individual episodes of the BBC series (about 6 miles).
• Woolsthorpe Manor the birthplace of Isaac Newton and now owned by the National Trust. New Discovery Centre to keep the kids and the youthful adults amused doing scientific experiments. (about 8 miles)
• Oakham is a lovely market town with plenty of independent retailers and a street market on Wednesdays and Saturdays plus a good museum.
The site is being improved and there are plans for an indoor swimming pool if the planners are amenable. We enjoyed our visit and plan to return because Rutland has so much to offer within a short distance of the site.

Our party, as usual, was made up of me (Dad), the wife; our two boys aged 9 & 7 and our doggie.
Firstly, and Rutland Caravan and Camping Site make this clear but DO NOT follow Sat-Nav. Please make sure you follow road signs for Greetham and then you will pick the Parks signage.
Once at the site, check-in was straight forward and very pleasant. The wardens (and or staff) ensured that we knew where to pitch and how the van / awning should be arranged for that pitch. They also made sure we knew what was where for whatever we wanted.
The site is generally split into 4 basic areas with an adult’s only area for any unit except tents, a mixed rally field, a mixed electric field and a camping only field.
There is a dog walk on site but dogs are not allowed off the lead here.
Entry and exit to the site is via a barrier card key issued at check-in and (if I remember right) the barrier is automatically locked in the down position between 11pm and 7am. Should you happen to be caught outside the site during these hours, there is ample parking just outside the site and it appears very secure.
During our 5 night stay at Rutland, we always found all showers, toilets, pot washes and any other public access areas to be spotless and always of the highest standards.
There is an extensive playground at this site and during our stay the site was nearly full and yet there was always room for more children to enjoy themselves. The slides play houses, Football pitch and more are all placed within a deep sand basin. My two lads never run out of ideas to play during our stay and it really is one of the better parks I have seen.
The playground, amongst others, are covered by CCTV and it was reassuring to see the late duty Warden appear and tell one of the older lads to calm it as he had spotted this lad throwing stones.
The staff here was working hard all day long to ensure everyone enjoyed their stay and it was not easy as the site was full and I’m sure the only pitch we saw empty must have been a no show.
During our stay we made regularly use of the footpath that runs from the site to the local village and the local stores offers a wide selection of them daily bits that are not stock by the on site shop.
The site is bordered by RAF Cottesmore and although there are daily weekday flights and therefore engine run-ups prior to each flight which may cause some people to be disturbed, we only ever saw interested people stand and watch each take-off. We never noticed any flights taking place outside of 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
Rutland Caravan and Camping Park is a massive project to maintain and run, but all the staff does so without question and we were made to feel very welcome at all times.
Upon leaving, the site invited our input regarding the planned / proposed swimming pool for the site so it appears even more is planned to be added.
During our stay, we visited Rutland Water and its nature reserve (would recommend), Oakham Town, Wicksteed Park (50/50 recommendation), Sacrewell Farm & Country Centre (highly recommend).
We visited Rutland Caravan and Camping Site on our way round the Suffolk / Norfolk area but as we all had a wonderful time here, we all know that we will be returning again.

Visited this site for the second time.It is well run and the toilet/ shower facilities are clean, warm and well maintained.
The pitches are generous and level and the kids loved the play area in the family tent field.
It is ideally situated for Rutland Water where there is lots to do - cycling / watersports / aerial assault course etc.
Only a couple of small gripes - despite ringing earlier on the day of our arrival, I was not told that disposable BBQs were not allowed. This was the case even if they were placed on a cooking stand. Having arrived with loads of meat for a group BBq on the friday, this was a pain! Luckily some other kind campers took pity on us and allowed us to tip our disposable BBq charcoal into their 'proper' BBQ so all was not lost!
Secondly, the fish and chip van did not arrive as we had been advised it would on the Saturday evening. There is a good chippy in Cottesmore which is about 5 miles away so we did not starve!
All in all a good campsite and would come again, albeit rethinking our eating arrangements!

Just got back from this site and loved it. Pro's:
Helpful polite staff, clean showers/toilets, good washing up area, quiet. Kids loved play area (we hardly saw them), but it is on sand, so brought enough back to build a house with! Greetham village is very pretty with a small shop/post office that was reasonably well stocked.
Con's:
Very hard limestone makes pegging out awning or tent a nightmare. We didn't have rock pegs and damaged / ruined loads of pegs, was told by several people, that even rock pegs sometimes hard going.
The wind was a nightmare, put up our new porch awning only to have the poles bent by force of wind (saying that we were on a corner and seemed to be getting the wind from two directions), poles ruined!
Hardstanding is not hardstanding - its pea gravel!
Would definitely go back again.

Booked two pitches in March so that we could be next to friends, however on arrival it was apparent that we would not be on adjoining pitches, but some distance apart. The lady on reception, didn't really seem that interested in our complaint, which was a shame.
However, we didn't let it spoil our stay. We were in the rally field with lots of open space for the children to play. Great play area, and the toilet block was always clean. The site was really quite after 10pm. Due to the really hot weather, the wardens banned the use of disposable bbq's, however gas bbqs and normal charcoal bbq's were still allowed.
The post office in the village now has a separate cafe/coffee shop at the back, which was nice.
This is the fifth time we have stayed at this site and despite the confusion of the pitches, we would return again.

5 Star Site
On arrival the site looked well organised with electric barriers and keycards.
Once booked in we were explained the rules and given direction to our pitches.
The drive to the pitches showed how organised the site was. Good sized fields with very generous sized pitches(marked by a numbered post and yellow boundary posts).
Facilities are excellent, clean tidy & spacious. There is also adult only facilities which make a pleasant change.
A small shop for you essentials and a large sand filled play area for the kids.
Oakham is a 10 minute drive and is an old market town, so good for a nose around.
Greetham is a 5 min walk from the site with several very nice pubs and a post office/ shop.
As all the fields are very flat I was expecting a bit of wind, but whilst the trees around the field showed signs of wind we could fly a kite.
Loved the site and will go back

What a fantastic site, very friendly and helpful staff especially when we had to postpone our trip due to a family emergency. The toilets, showers and washing up facilitates were clean and well kept. Although we don't have children or dogs this park caters for both with a well kitted out play area for children and an area to walk dogs just outside the park.
There is a small shop on site that carries essential items such as bread, milk and toilet rolls. The village is a short walk away and features a quaint church, garden center and a few pubs. Rutland water is about 4 miles away and easily accessible via cycles.
We would definitely go again

We use this site as it is an ideal location for cycling round Rutland Water.
Toilet blocks were ok. Not quite up to caravan club standards yet.
Pubs were great but would recommend to book at weekends as it gets extremely busy.
Flat level site with large pitches. Our daughter loved the large play area.
My only gripe with the site on this visit was that my son had a puncture half way round Rutland reservoir, making us late returning to the site. We were not informed that the barrier card used to exit the site would be deactivated after 4pm.
We were met by an unsympathetic warden who asked for another nights fees, before he would activate the barrier for us to exit and return home. I felt this was rather unreasonable as the site wasn't busy and would like to make other campers aware of this rule.

A lovely weekend on a very nice site. Showers wonderful and staff very very helpful. No noise at night even on the rally field. Only the charming sound of the nearby church bells tolling the hour. Other half a little bit disappointed about lack of fighter plane action after reading other reviews!
One tip. The chip van duly arrived at the site between 5 and 7 and this seemed very popular. But we must recommend the chip shop at Cottesmore (about 5 or 10 mins drive). We chose to eat in. Clean, spotless in fact and the fish and chips were so fresh even though they were closing in half an hour. Tea came in a china tea pot and I noticed that all the cutlery was kept covered up. Mushy peas and curry sauce in china dishes and we were asked twice if our meal was ok. And they were very understanding when we came to pay and found ourselves £1.50 short (we did go back!). After a 23 mile cycle ride this was perfect!
