We came to this site as it is quite near our home town of Lincoln and Rutland is part of the country we hadn’t really explored at all. It turned out to be mainly unspoiled quaint little towns and villages which make the area well worth a visit! (all of which offer surprisingly cheap parking!) We would particularly recommend a trip to Oakham, which as far as we could see, was the nearest place with a supermarket.
We booked this site as it said it was walkable to the village which had 3 pubs, all of which look very nice: we particularly liked the Plough. The site itself seems quite new : trees are still quite young. It will be very nice in a few years time when the trees have grown a little more. Pitches are well set out and level, with family pitches and play area sensibly separated from those of us who enjoy a calmer child free atmosphere. We took one of the hard standing pitches which was a good size. Facilities were spotless with roomy showers and plenty of hot water. Our only slight gripe is they were playing a rubbish radio station in them!
The site also offered a wi-fi internet service for £7.00 per week, or £4.50 per day, which seemed good value.
Overall a very nice and well organised site. If we are honest maybe a little too organised - either that or the owners like everything to be just so, as there are notices everywhere telling you what you can and cant do!,
Late noise is something you shouldn’t experience on this site as there is a strict silence rule after 11pm.
We would definitely come back to this site and recommend it to others.

This was our first camping trip with our daughter (1.5yrs). It was a nice, neat, clean site - which felt quite safe for a toddler. The pitches were a decent size and you can park right next to your tent.
The play area was good - our daughter loved the sand (the whole playground is on sand) and the toddler area was good - little plastic slides, rockers and playhouses. The only problem was it was a little damp when we were there and children had plastered a lot of the play equipment with wet sand (not the campsite's fault, obviously). A few bits of equipment were starting to look a bit battered (although they may have been replaced since then) so you do need to watch young children carefully.
The toilet block was clean and spacious. I can't comment on the showers as we were only there for 1 night so didn't sample them.
It was a pleasant walk into the local village, with a few pubs serving food. We walked to what was probably the furthest pub, which had a pretty little beer garden in front, where we enjoyed a pleasant meal.
I would recommend this site for young families.

Have just returned from two weeks at this superb site. If you enjoy Caravan Club standards with really helpful cheerful staff, this is the place. The site layout separating caravans, tents. Couples etc and families is a bonus for all and facilities as mentioned by most others are superb. The site is excellent base for trips to Leicester, Lincoln and Derby with many pretty villages and good touristy things to see and do in between. The childrens play area was really tempting but 'her in doors ' threatened to grass me up if I went on the numerous child friendly items so had to give it a miss ( this time ! ).
If you think you have met more friendly, efficient staff than the four here I want to know about them, but even if you have, the eggs from the site shop can`t possibly as big as the ones at this site, God knows how big the hens are! If you want to get the best impression try a Monday to Friday stay, believe me it`s worth it.

This is a very well equipped site, close to a village (Greetham) which has no fewer than 3 pubs, and a small shop.
The facility blocks are well equipped and as spotlessly clean as we have ever encountered on a commercial site.
For pet owners, there is a good on-site dog walking area, as well as a network of paths from the site itself into the village and beyond.
The setting is great, with the possibility of seeing the odd RAF fighter take off and land at the nearby airbase.
Its proximity to the A1 makes this a good site for a short stopover when travelling longer distances, but I would recommend a longer stay if the time allows, to take in the sights of Rutland Water and Barndale Gardens (the former base of Geoff Hamilton). The latter has a very nice little cafe attached.

This was a very clean and friendly site. It cost us £17 a night with two teenage children. There was access from the site down a lane to the local village where we were able to enjoy excellent food from The Plough pub recommended in the good food guide. We spent the days away from the site touring round Rutland Water on our bikes or visiting the pretty town Oakham. The only slight downside was the nearby jets at Cottesmore air base which fly all day until late in the evening but luckily not at weekends. As I mentioned before the site was incredibly clean with hot free showers and piped, yes piped music. The wardens were very friendly and gave us lots of helpful ideas on what to do and where to go. We will definitely visit again.

We initially wanted to stay for only one night on this site to break up a long journey to Plymouth, as it is very close to the A1. We were so pleased with it that we also stayed here on our return trip, and have now made enquiries about having a seasonal pitch as well.
I think that this is the best privately-run site that we have ever stayed on. The Caravan Club sites have obviously been used as a model, and then some useful extras have been added on. There are even bricks provided at the water points for standing disposable bar-be-ques on. There's wireless internet access for a reasonable fee. Wardens patrol the site at 11pm asking for quiet, and they take a huge pride in providing exactly what a camper wants.
The facilities are immaculately clean, are heated, and have the cheesiest local radio piped in. Individual pitches are large with plenty of hardstandings. Grass is well-trimmed with a large area dotted with picnic tables left in the center of the pitches.
It was impossible to criticise anything about this site when we visited, and we will be coming back to explore the charming towns nearby. If you stay here, do try the free-range eggs for sale at reception - we did and found 9 double-yolkers out of a dozen! Even the single yolked eggs were enormous and looked as though they were layed by an ostrich.

It was nearly two years since we last visited Rutland Caravan and Camping Site. There has been many changes, including the warden. We really liked the large play area for the children, it kept them entertained for hours. It was also nice to see the toilet blocks were always very clean and the showers were hot and free. The site has several 'area's', including designated camping fields - one for adults and one for families / groups, which is a nice touch. It also has lovely big gravel pitches and a good water/waste dump point for motorhomes. The reception sells fresh eggs and chocolate. Ok for the missis I suppose, but could be developed with a few more items for sale, as the shop in the village is rubbish, not even selling milk or bread! Only down side to our visit was the male wardens attitude against our motorhome, even though it fitted on the pitch fine, on the morning of the second day, he said he couldn't take us again as we were too big. Even though when we rang to book and told him we were 35ft long, he insisted that we hadn't told him. After a little negotiating he said it was because they only had so many of the larger pitches and we would have to ring or email in future to check availability. So if your longer than 30ft, please ring or email the site in advance to check they have a larger pitch free. Other than that, a very very nice site and worth a visit any time of the year.

This is a very well organised site, flat and fairly exposed. Excellent heated toilet blocks with good, spotless facilities. The site is large, with a mix of grass and hard standing pitches. It has a family tent area, and a large adult camping area / rally field. There are also two dog walk areas. The playground has a sandpit and slides and swings, with pedal cars etc. The site reception sells a few basic food items. It is a short walk into the village, which boast good pubs serving food, one of which has a selection of several real ales. A couple of village shops will supply most basic needs. Ball games, kiteflying etc. are not allowed on the camping areas, and a quiet environment is the aim - music kept to a minimum during the day, quiet after 10PM and total silence after 11PM. Site access is controlled by key code barrier, which is closed from 11PM to 6.30AM. Visitors are permitted, parking in the generous car parking area outside the barrier, but charged an entrance fee of £1 per head. By no means a site for wild parties, but a good place for a quiet family break. I would be very happy to return.

Just returned from a very pleasant stay at this site. The pitches were spacious and well thought out, there were family fields (near a nice play area) and an adult only field away from the family field.
Toilets and showerswere entered via a keypad systemand were always spotless and very nice, there were even free hairdryers. The dog walk was lovely.
The village pubs were nice, but forfood loversdrive a little further to Cottismore and visit the Sun Inn - it was superb!
The pretty town of Stamford, and of course Rutland Water are with easy drivingdistance- we enjoyed hiring a canoe on Rutland water.
Allin all, a really pleasant stay and we will return again.
