Been to this site twice over the Halloween weekend. Was on hard standing last time which is better than the grass. We are booked on again next year but leaving our caravan and going back the weekend after for the bonfire,
The showers are 20p but is worth it. The pub is great for food but does get busy,
The night of the Halloween disco is great but you have to go early for a seat, everyone dressers up, even the adults, the caravans are too and all the kids go round trick or treating. It's great
The shop on site has all you need. Don't know what it is like in the summer but we love it at Halloween. Get booked its half price then as well.

Visited during half term-half price pitches at £16 a night was excellent value. Mixed views on the site really. The pitches were separated by hedges giving privacy, perhaps a little on the small side but to be fair we had a car parking space dedicated for our pitch directly opposite the pitch, allowing plenty of room.
The shop was fine for what we needed.
The pub and restaurant were excellent. I can recommend a pint of 'Callow Top' real ale. 'Arnolds' cafe was good value too.
The kids play park on site was popular.
The games 'Arcade' was stuck in the 70's and 'a bit rubbish', in my 6 year old lads own words.
The toilet block was okay, but no loo brushes were in the cubicles, so if someone wanted to clean the loo after them, they could not.
The showers were disappointing. 20p piece needed for 4 minutes of hot water - water was always plenty and hot, but the cubicles had no windows, an ineffective extractor fan and tiled walls that were soaking after the first shower, which left your clothes wet when hung against them. Like the loos, there were no squeegee mops to mop the shower out after you, so the floors always seemed wet.
The pool shuts in September thankfully, or my kids would have challenged me to a dip. Brrr!
The cycle path is nearby and runs into Ashbourne one way or Tissington & beyond the other, safe and scenic.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
All in all, quite a nice site, but needs a bit of work to sort out the showers.

We stayed at Callow Top for 2 nights on our first ever family camping trip, and I can say that it was a wonderful place to stay. We found check in extremely easy as new arrivals are directed by signs. The staff where welcoming and very helpful, explaining exactly where our pitch was (field #6) and giving us a useful map.
The facilities where always clean and tidy, although we didn't use the shower facilities (which cost 20p for 4 minutes). The toilets never run out of paper and the washing up room was always nice and clean.
The shop was fully stocked with food, drinks, sundries etc and also lots of camping equipment (this was quite useful for a first time camper who forgot to pack spare batteries etc!) The reception had a lot of leaflets and very knowledgeable staff when we were looking for ideas to explore the locale. There were also plenty of water taps around the site.
The kids also loved this site as it has a great, well maintained play park as well as lots of open space to run around. There was a disco on the Saturday night but the sound didn't disturb us at all and didn't carry on too late anyway. And although we didn’t have time to use it there is a lovely heated outdoor pool with a baby’s area.
During our stay we went for a visit to Ashbourne which is a lovely town with a nice Saturday market. We also went to Dovedale which is beautiful and well worth a visit to the steppingstones. Our stay was a fantastic experience for our first time and we'll be visiting again so we can explore more of the local area.
Finally can I just mention that as the pitch was half price we only paid £20. 00 for 2 adults, 2 kids the car and the tent for out 2 nights stay. What a bargain!

We had a short 2 night stay at Callow Top, and I must say that the layout of the site is spot on. The pitch sizes were excellent, particularly for the money paid, albeit off-season, and offer a level of privacy.
The facilities were generally very good, albeit the clubhouse isn't ideal for buggies late afternoon/early evening when it starts to fill up. There was a bit of rowdiness both nights with some campers enjoying a drink, and I think security could have done more to quieten them down once it got to midnight (one of the Mums intervened in the end), but most of the kids slept through, and with a few beers so did most of the adults.
The scenery is beautiful around the campsite, and with Ashbourne so close there is easy access to most things you might desire whilst camping (including a great chippy!). We didn't do much walking as we were 3 families with 5 young children, but there seemed to be plenty of walks in the surrounding area. We went to Carsington Water on the middle day which is a great spot for a picnic, and adventure if you so wish.
Back to the campsite, the shop has more than most would require, and the Pub looked good. The one big let down was the showers, of which there could do with being several more, and free of charge, with decent showerheads. I still managed to get clean, as we all did, but this would top off a very good campsite.

Having read other reviews (some good, some bad, you can't please everyone) I was a bit reluctant to visit this site, however we did and we have a mixed view on the site. The approach to the site is very steep and there are a series of nasty humps the nearer you get, I damaged the vans jockey wheel on one of them so beware. We were put in field 3 in the middle of other vans when there was loads of space elsewhere, could not follow the logic but hey ho. The pitch was untidy a used beer glass with old residue in it fag ends and other bits and pieces. One of the toilet/shower blocks was shut off without a note saying where the alternative was. The second night about 10. 30 pm a very roudy group arrived in 3 vans, I had to complain to the night guard to get them quiet, however he did speak to them and they shut up about 11. 30pm. The place came to life at the week. End everything opened as more people arrived. The 2nd shower block was also opened, the toilets etc were cleaned early morning with a male and female cleaner in the gents, I told her this made me uncomfortable and she left to do elsewhere. Overall we were not happy. The cost was high for September and the showers were not freee. I don't think we would visit again, it is a family site for not too fussy people but then we have been using campsites for 30 years or so

We visited the park at the end of August for 2 nights just after the bank holiday weekend. We absolutely loved our stay there and didn't want to leave.
Everything about the park was brill. It was immaculately clean and tidy all over, lots to do for children including the pool which mine were never out of, small games room, park, bike hire again very good, football field and lots of space to general just play and have fun. The pub was lovely.
The food looked very nice although we didn't try it. We were pitched on a lovely pitch surrounded by hedges, very near to all the amenities. The toilets and showers were again very clean.
There are plenty of walks from the park down to Ashbourne and on the Tissington Trail. We visited Dovedale which was also lovely. The surrounding area is very nice too.
Can't wait to return next year.

Stayed here for 4 nights recently and were very impressed with the site as a whole. Driveway to the reception directed new check-ins to the appropriate lane. Check-in was prompt and efficient (we had arrived early but were able to head straight to our allocated pitch) and we were shown our pitch and given a map of the site, with toilet/shower blocks, laundry, games room, wash-up area and site cafe/entertainment centre pointed out.
Pitch was in Field 3 of seven field areas, mainly in with caravans or campervans but with no-one in front of us. We were pitched in no time as the kids went exploring on their bikes, making friends almost instantly.
Toilet and shower blocks were 2 mins away and clean and not too overcrowded (remember to take 20p coins for use in the showers and for the hairdryers in the toilet block).
Games room had air hockey and arcade games machine, ample for keeping the kids amused. The outdoor playpark was great and was where my son spent most of his time. There is an outdoor pool which we only used once as the weather wasn't very good but on a sunny day, I would imagine it gets very busy.
Bear in mind this is a busy site and be cautious when driving as there are kids everywhere on bikes and running near the park area. They tend to pop out of nowhere, right in front of the car.
The cafe/entertainment had bingo and discos and served food to eat in or take away. Pizza is highly recommended!
Overall a great site, very busy but the facilities were more than able to cope.
Would definitely return again if in the area in the future.

I must say we was very disappointed with our stay at Callow Top. The biggest problem was we were packed in like sardines and we were kept awake each night from snoring from the next caravan.
There was no privacy and no views at all. There was less that 1 meter from our caravan to the next pitches awning.
The facility's are ok but not enough for the amount of people that were on the site. You would always have to wait for showers and no pitches with water and waste connections.
We won't be returning neither will we me recommending it.

Just got back from a lovely weekend at this site - weather was fantastic which helped! The site is really well laid out with lots of thought given to checking in, parking, site layout etc. Tent pitches are very generous with plenty of room for large tents and cars side by side whilst still private from the next tent - plenty of room to pitch etc. Excellent site for children - loads of room to play, good play area and pool area. Well landscaped and flat fields for tents. No electric hook up for tents, but this didn't seem to be a problem and definitely wasn't a problem for us.
The on site facilities are good - the camp shop has pretty much everything you may need and the cafe bar and on-site pub are very welcoming and well furnished. The food is good if slightly pricey.
The site is really quiet being well off the main road and quiet after 11. 00 pm - very peaceful. Definitely a family site - it had a really nice atmosphere to it.
Only criticism would be that, for the tent fields (6 & 7) there is not really enough toilets or washing facilities and it would benefit from having another block more to hand - it was peak season so very busy - the toilets were always clean, just a bit busy at times! Private washing cubicles would be a bonus as the showers are some way from the camp fields. You do have to pay for the showers as well which I always find a bit disappointing considering the fairly high daily cost for the site, but it wouldn't put me off the site.
All in all would recommend the site and would definitely return.

Just back from callow top this afternoon its our first camping expedition, we are two adults and two children, we found the camp to be clean, and although busy never had to queue up for toilets, washing up or showers. The pool looked lovely but we did not use it on this occasion. We had a meal on Saturday night in arnolds cafe bar which could not be faulted, and this morning we packed up our tent and had a breakfast there too which again could not be faulted. The kids loved the play area and all the open space around the pitches which again although busy was not overcrowded. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly. The only bad point that I could think of would be that there was only 1 hairdryer in the main toilet block, I don't know about the other shower block as I did not use it and there was a queue for this, we would definitely recommend the site, and will definitely return.
