Nice site - great location! Some truly beautiful places to see nearly, Dovedale is a must, as is Tissington and Parwich (2 lovely villages - in superb countryside). Ashbourne a very nice town - lots of choice for places to eat. The site itself has some excellent facilities, the loos and showers spotlessly clean. Although the charge for showers they are excellent value. The camping fields lovely, but these do not have EHU which is a shame as the hard standing pitches not quite so nice. Some are a little too close together for my liking although we had lots of space but were facing the road and parking spaces. We couldn't take the first pitch we were allocated as it hadn't been vacated - which we were pleased about as fitting out large TT would have been a tight squeeze - so I would advice anyone with a large unit to specify so on booking.
The onsite pub has a good atmosphere and serves super great value meals, the cafebar (not as grand as it sounds),has large screen TVs, pool tables etc - all seemed good and well orginized.
Overall the site was very clean and pleasant, a long drive keeps the local traffic noise away and the staff were without exception helpful, happy and chatty. The lighting after dark 'low key' which is great for star spotting and for keeping the country feel but makes for a spooky trip to the loo!

At £15 a night for a tent it's not the cheapest of sites but it does have 2 on site pubs which are open until 11pm (Saturday night had a typical cheesy DJ!), outdoor swimming pool (which was a little bit heated - we went in September) kids barked play area and quite a large shop. Toilets and showers always seemed to be being cleaned which is a good thing though the cleaning staff are a little rude at times! Wardens patrol at night asking you to keep the noise down. Lovely walk to Asbourne over the fields onto the Tissington trail then through an old disused train tunnel (that plays choo choo noises as you walk through it) takes about 20 minutes. It states the gates to the site are locked at 11pm so be careful! Also don't go if you have a low exhaust on your car, the speed ramps are terrible! I'd recommend this site and we would go again.

Loved it! so much to see and do and there is plenty for the kids going again next year. Showers are hot and for forty pence bargain. Pub has great beer and they brew there own. Food is excellent. Loads of room between pitches. A walk into Ashbourne takes about 10-15 mins and is worth a visit

We stayed for just one night in early September, unfortunately the children had not gone back to school, so lots of noise. Not very impressed by the site, 8 showers for hundreds of campers, toilets closed for cleaning at 8.00am Sunday morning (no I could not believe this either) A notice pinned to the door read.please use other toilet block. This turned out to be a portacabin with very long queues. All this for £17.00 a night, I would have asked for a refund but reception was closed on the Sunday morning & I could not wait to get away to the real Derbyshire countryside. There may be a pub and a very well equipped shop but this site was far better 15 years ago when it was just a field.

This site is located well away from any roads and is in a very beautiful and quiet area. We used an electric hook up pitch and there was more than enough room for our large trailer tent, car and bikes. A very clean on site mini mart with a very good selection of food and camping basics and spares. A secure site with a manned barrier and a good set up for welcoming new visitors whilst allowing easy access to those already on site moving in and out. An excellent lay out with a very good on site pub with large grassed area out front with ample seating. There is also Arnold's cafe which does fantastic food at very good prices and also has an area with a number of pool tables and table tennis along with a big screen TV for all those essential viewings. Very spacious and clean showers and at 20p a time excellent value. There is a good children's play area next to the pub green and cafe and a very short walk away is a big field for cricket and football etc. Along with the on site fresh water fishing lake and a nice outdoor pool there is ample to keep most people occupied. The general area is one of outstanding natural beauty and is perfect for anyone on a bike or anyone wishing to trek or walk across some of the best countryside this country has to offer. The staff were always very well presented and very helpful and the on site brewed ale was a real plus. In spite of a few showers and some overnight rain our stay was so good we cannot wait to return next year. Callow Top is a family run site and it certainly shows and we would happily recommend I to anyone.

On arrival we were directed to field 5, which on reflection appeared to be the best. The pitches are clearly numbered and are generously sized.

The positives - Good sized pitch, well stocked shop, plenty for kids to do.

The negatives - Long walk to loos (Nice & Clean), Extremely long walk to showers (20p/4 mins water hot, but not very clean at all),

This site is very commercial (Butlins comes to mind) and felt a little overcrowded, the on site pub food was only adequate to be kind. If you like a busy site holiday camp feel 10/10, but not for us.

We have just returned from a break here. Nice, with great views, ideal for visiting the local attractions but, over run with kids who's parents obviously kick them out in the morning and don't see them again all day.

Thought it a bit cheeky to charge for showers as it is quite expensive for the pitch. The tumble dryers are also a con. Please put your money in the machine, not the mystery box on the wall.

I have to agree with previous comments about the shower/facilities. If you pitch near the main shower block, it is very noisy until after 11pm. If you pitch in fields 6 or 7 they are beautiful and great for the kids but seriously lacking in facilities.

They say they heat the pool ! but I find that hard to believe !.

We were out most days and were up and about early so we missed a lot of the queueing for washing up and showers.

I would recommend the great chip shop and chinese restaurant in Ashbourne.

Very disappointed with this site. They neglect to inform you that there is additional costs for basic things like showers. There is no where to exercise your dog and the children's playground is right next to the road. There is loud music every night coming from 'Arnolds' yet they expect you to keep noise levels down after 9pm.

We visited Callow Top in July for 2 nights and on the whole thought this was a very nice site. We were ptiched on field 7 and althought quite close to the neighbours we had ample room in front for ball games if you wished or just to sit back and enjoy the lovely scenery. The down side of being on one of the top fields is its quite a trek to the amenities. The nearest toilet block was 2 fields away and were only a portakabin with not enough toilets to cater for the amount of visitors although mostly clean during our stay. The shop was well stocked compared to most and takeaway food is available all day. There is plenty to amuse the kids at Callow Top with 2 swimming pools and a large play area and also an amusement arcade. There is a lovely pub on site with a large beer garden which seemed very popular. The walk along the Tissington Trail to Ashbourne is very pleasant. We would certainly consider returning to this site in the future but would be swayed more if a toilet/shower block and a washing up station were built on field 7.

We went for a weekend here. The pitch was nice but in our field only had a portacabin for the loo, showers a good walk, and then there wasn't enough! Pool no way big enough for the size of the site. The pub is nice and does good food. Access to the Tissington trail is good if you like a nice walk or bike ride and the fishing lake is good.
