Stayed 3 nights over the May Day Bank Holiday. Site full with many families camping. This put some pressure on the amenity blocks which seem under-provided for although kept very clean. We are self-sufficient in motorhome so no problem to us. Very good facilities: shop, swimming pool, play area, cafe bar and, best of all, site pub with locally brewed beer and reasonably priced food. Some problems with time delay over getting food due to high demand
Friendly helpful staff. Able to take up pitch from 10am and stay on to 4pm rather than leave at 11am
Ashbourne only 20 minutes walk away across fields. Tissington Trail runs across bottom of site - good for cycling, walking and riding
Very busy site over the weekend but ask for a pitch away from the play area etc if you want relative peace. We had pitch 89 next to a field of sheep, a complete contrast to the centre of the site

Had a brilliant time the camp was welcoming as soon as we arrived, clean and tidy, clean toilets and showers. The showers don't go in the morning rush! only warm water.
Really enjoyed the quiz on Sunday night, got everyone together and play your cards right a good time was had by all, impressed with the security at night coming round telling people to turn music off, very impressed, will be coming back one day.

My third visit to this site and my feelings haven't changed. Yes there is lots to say in praise : great location, great shop, nice large, level fields, some useful on-site family facilities but I just can't rave about it.
The disco held on the lawn at the front of the pub and the snack bar have a bit of a rough feel about them. I'm no snob but babies woefully tired in the arms of their parents with very loud music blaring out isn't a pretty sight to see.
The play area is frequented by older kids. I hate campsites with loads of regulations but this is a bit too free range for my taste. Sorry, Callow Top.

Have just returned from a week at this site. Been twice before with a tent but have moved up into a caravan. Love this site. Excellent amenities, great play park for the kids plus fields for sports and ball games. Showers separate from the toilet block were cleaned twice daily. Staff all very friendly and helpful.
Shop on site for basics plus extras.Pub on site which serves food too. Beer garden to sit with the dog. Cafe where you can get take away and bacon butties etc. Downhill walk into Ashbourne which means uphill on the way back. Plenty of places to visit roundabout eg Matlock, Bakewell, Carsington Water to name but a few. Well worth a visit. Will return to this site again. Great.

What a fabulous campsite, I really can't find anything negative to say about this site
The staff are friendly, the site itself is spotless, showers, toilets are again spotless with plenty of hot water. The shop on site is more like a small supermarket with very reasonable prices.
I will definitely be returning whenever I get the chance.

We always use this great site as a base for Alton Towers.
Staff are very friendly.
Very reasonably priced pitches (even when its not half price)
Good play area for the children.
Lovely hot showers, main toilet blocks lovely and warm inside! Cleaned regularly, plenty of toilet roll too.
Pitches are a very good size as our tent is 7.5m by 5.4m and a lot of sites charge you extra for this.
Very good all round facilities, I would highly recommend this site to anyone, never had any problems here.

Was recommended by a friend, after paying over £200.00 to stay for 9 nights, I was a bit miffed at having to pay to have showers, over the 9 days this cost me around an extra £25.00
The other thing that miffed me was it was the Easter holidays and classed has high season and the pool was not open, there was little or no entertainment on
I must of been on the smallest pitch on the site, I could not even put my annexes up on one side and in the side my daughter slept we could not pitch it properly for her so on the rainy nights, the rain gathered on the annexe. We had no privacy people were walking between ours and our friends van, through a walk way, kids skidding on bikes chucking gravel everywhere.
It was clean and the staff friendly, us or our friends wont be visiting again in the near future. They should also warn you of the steep hill to get to it and the high road humps, smaller towing cars may struggle.

We used as a base for the kids going to Alton Towers. Possibly not the closest site but handy enough and worth the 15 minute drive.
Lovely site and very helpful and friendly reception staff. Were given a map of the site and a list of activities etc. Well stocked shop.
Good sized pitches which are well marked out and plenty of room on hard standing for motorhome and awning. We were asked not to park our car on the grass due to recent heavy rain and as there was parking available close by this was not a problem (although some people ignored this advice!)
We took advantage of the half price offer and have to say after this visit we would happily pay the full price.
Ate at Arnolds and the food was lovely and very reasonably priced. Again staff were friendly. The pub looked lovely and we would have eaten there but the Man you game was on.
Toilets and showers were spotless and whilst you pay for the showers they were hot, clean and 20p was plenty for our 13 year old daughter! Dishwashing area also very clean.
Overall the site was lovely, very clean and well maintained. The road up was not a problem.
Local village great for strolling round and The Cheddar Gorge cheese shop well worth a visit.

We went here with our 3 year old daughter and used it as a base for Alton Towers and Drayton Manor Park (Friday till Tuesday) on one of their half price offers - what a bargain!
The campsite itself is lovely. There are wonderfully hot showers, plenty of clean toilet facilities (including loo roll!), well designed indoor washing up facilities (with 'proper' hot water to get your dishes clean), a small laundry room which includes tumble driers and ironing area (though I didn't try this myself), a games room (again didn't try it but looked like there was plenty to do in there for kids of various ages), a fabulously well stocked shop, a separate sports/ games field, a heated outdoor pool (no I was not brave enough for that in September, but still it looked very nice) and a lovely playground right next to benches outside the pub (didn't try this either, but it looked to have a good amount of happy customers, so I guess no issue there too) Friendly, courteous staff. Good information upon arrival. Hairdrier in main ladies toilets. Great!
Tent field we were in had enough space per marked out pitch to fit our tent (5berth), a gazebo and our car. Lovely flat field with plenty of shelter surrounding. Also plenty of room in the middle for children to play together where they can be seen and without causing an issue. Saw a few squirrels mooching around when it was quieter which was nice. All in all, I thought this site was great and would not hesitate to recommend it. Also was kept very tidy despite being fairly busy. Didn't try the bike hire though I believe there is hire available there.

This site is located about ½ mile north of Ashbourne and is privately owned. It is open all the year round for touring caravans, motor-caravans and tents. Earliest arrival time is 12 noon and departures by 11am. No day or evening visitors allowed so if you want to meet up with friends or family it will be off site.
Welcome on arrival was good with clear explanation of facilities.
There are around 240 touring pitches of with a mixture of hardstandings and grass, some with electricity and some without. Pitches are reasonably level so you may not need levelling blocks.
Access to the site is controlled by a barrier with an attendant who checks your vehicle pass each time. At night a security guard with Alsatian dog patrolled the site. The main access road is single track with passing places and is very steep. There are lots of ‘sleeping policemen’ traffic calming on the access roads so don’t take the Crown Derby china! We had a pitch alongside a ‘sleeping policeman’ and on the Friday night when there were lots of arrivals the noise of contents crashing around was prevalent.
There are three heated toilet blocks with WCs and wash-hand basins. They were very clean and are serviced three times a day. Showers are in a separate area, all unisex and you put 20p in a slot and the shower runs for about 4 minutes. Very good flow of water although no individual adjustment. You will need a radar key to access the disabled bathroom. Also washing up/vegetable preparation area and laundry facilities.
Service points around the site for water. Chemical disposal facilities in main area. Rubbish and recycling facilities.
Dog walking off the site.
Great children's play area fully enclosed. Also on site is an outdoor heated swimming pool. There is no lifeguard so parents are responsible for the supervision of their children.
Bikes can be hired from the site (£12 a day) or on-site fishing (£5 a day).
Shopping facilities on site for a wide range of general goods including alcohol. Also stock a limited range of camping gear. Alternatively there is a wide variety of shops in Ashbourne just a short walk away.
There is a pub on site, the Callow Inn, which serves three different ales from the on-site brewery. They also do food in the pub plus there is a café/bar which serves food all day including breakfast and takeaways.
We paid £11 per night for standard hardstanding pitch with 10 amp electrical hook-up, caravan, awning and two adults. However this was a special half-price deal and the normal rate would have been £22 per night (£25 in high season)
Local attractions include:
• Ashbourne a pretty market town with Georgian architecture and an outdoor market twice a week
• Tissington Trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders runs adjacent to the site and is on the route of the old Buxton to Ashbourne railway. It is 13 miles long.
• Brierlow Bar bookstore near Buxton for bargain books
• Carsington Water a Severn Trent reservoir that provides a wide range of outdoor activities including walking, cycling and water activities
• Dovedale for outstanding scenery and a walk across the famous stepping stones
A family orientated holiday park with sufficient facilities not to have to go off site.
