Very nice place and great facilities for the children. We stayed in field 6 which was ideal apart from people kept tripping over the guide ropes at night time when cutting through instead of using the paths.
Showers were too hot for the children and 3 of them had no lights working.
Toilets were cleaned daily.
The pool was lovely and clean. It was very busy and people took no notice of the rules. A lifeguard or someone watching the pool would be ideal. Even though the park was for under 12s and children should be supervised.
Overall campsite was great - just some of the other tourists spoilt the time there.

The facilities on site were excellent. The toilets were always immaculate. The cafe served reasonable priced food and beverages. The on site shop was well stocked, friendly staffed, and the prices were very reasonable. The staff kept the park clean of all litter via regular patrols. Very child friendly and the pool was a welcome addition and only added to the children's enjoyment. Would definitely recommend to friends and will be returning again soon.

Spent the 1st May Bank holiday at Callow Top with 9 other families. The fact that we could pre-book our pitches meant that all 10 families could be together. The pitch sizes are really good and easily accommodated some of the larger tents.
During the days the kids played in the on-site playground and even dared to use the outdoor swimming pool (not heated!). The surrounding area was great to explore and we spent one day 'mountaineering' at Dovedale (small hill really but I'm not that fit and it almost killed me) and another day on the Tissington trail.
The shower blocks were clean but there were queues most days and the water wasn't always that hot but hey ho! They have done some work on the site since our last visit and some of the facilities were definitely looking good. I would highly recommend this site to any family or group of friends.

We stayed here over the easter holidays with our 5 children and dog.
The site is in a great position, but up a rather steep long driveway. A bit tough with 28ft of caravan to tow up there!
Lovely site and lots to do in surrounding area. Tissington trail is just off the driveway to the site, so great for cyclists.
Swimming pool opens May 1st so obviously wasn't open while we were there.
The site has great playground, cafe, pub with plenty of outside seating, pool tables, good food - all in all you don't have to leave the site if you don't want to!
The showers are big, clean, and the 20p for 4 mins. They were red red hot though! Not too good when you have small children!
(not complaining though - nice to have hot showers)
We stayed on pitch 91 field 5 right at the bottom right hand corner of the field. It rained for 2 days and the field became water logged. The awning had huge puddles in so I would avoid this pitch again. The drainage needs improving.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and we have booked to return to the site in November for bonfire night. (not in field 5 though!)

Callow Top is a lovely site the onsite pub is excellent serving good food and beer at reasonable prices.
We went over the Easter 2weeks hols and stayed for 2 nights and at the half price discount found this excellent value.
The showers are lovely and hot and very clean the on-site shop sells everything you need and the adventure play park is excellent for kids.
If I had to give any bad points it would be that there is no lighting at nite so when you make your way back from the Callow Top Inn be sure to take a torch as it is pitch black and you cannot see a thing.
Overall excellent site would highly recommend and are defo returning in the near future.

Stopped here for two nights had a great time, stopped on the tent field which was really child friendly. Toilets were clean.
Dropped on lovely weather so was able to use outdoor pool, which was nice but quite busy. Walk into Ashbourne was lovely and the pub on site served up a nice pint with outdoor seating on the green in front which again was child friendly.
Gets quite busy at peak times and did notice a few parties of people, but didn't really cause us any problems with noise etc.
Would stop again with a group of friends for a short weekend but wouldn't choose it for any longer a stay

Visited this site on it's seasonal opening weekend, the outdoor pool not open til may (understandably), the toilets were very clean and spacious. Showers were cleaned twice on the Saturday and were very large cubicles. Excellent kids play area, also a play field equipped with football nets, cricket practice nets (although at the time there was no netting on) and a volleyball net with sand. Their was a games room with pool table and pingpong table. The pub was quite small. Outside the pub there was a beer garden at back and tables at front so you could watch the kids in the play area whilst enjoying a drink.
We found the staff very helpful and they even let us extend our last day from 11am til 4pm at no extra cost. We were concerned about the fishing lake as our kids are only three but this was a needless worry as the lake was quite a way from the main camp.
All in all we will definitely visit again will just make sure we stock plenty of cans of beer just in case. This site is aimed more at walkers but being in the dales this is understandable. Children friendly, dog friendly and people friendly, Alton towers Matlock bath and Derby all quite close

I've visited this site on several occasions now and whilst it's fair to say I'm probably not their target demographic, I can only say good things about this site.
Whereas I visit the area solo or as a pair purely to hike in the peaks, the site seems aimed mainly at families, however there is a friendly atmosphere, good clean facilities and a great on site shop.
One of the best features is the onsite pub, this is an actual old fashioned pub for the use of the residents and is separate from the family club / disco area, a fantastic facility rarely seen in this type of site.
It's true that the normal rates can be a little pricey but the site does have regular and excellent value special offers which make it all the more attractive.

We visited after some fairly heavy rainfall, however the site was well maintained and there were only a few muddy puddles. Finding our pitch on the vast site was easy and the size of the pitch was easily big enough to accommodate our mammoth tent.
This was the first time we had camped with children and there was plenty for them there. We didn't use the pool but they enjoyed the play area. Although we ate out there was a reasonable range of food at acceptable prices.
The on site shop had a big range of food and camping essentials although these were a lot more expensive than in the town.
The only negative was the amount of noise at night from other camper on a neighbouring field. This problem is out of the control of the site and I have just rebooked for Easter.

I attended the Firework Weekend on the 7th-9th November 2008.
Booking into the site was easy, and I received confirmation letter within a week.
The Campsite was also superb. I was on hard standing with electric hook up, and it was a good weekend.
I really enjoyed myself, however the firework display was not as good as the previous show I attended in 2006. However the weekend was enjoyable, and I plan to visit again in the summer of 2009.
