This was our first time camping holiday and we couldn't have picked a nicer site! We already knew the Dorset area and this location was perfect for the places we visited. Corfe Castle a must - visit the tea room with the garden & model village, warm dorset apple cake with clotted cream delicious. Swanage - best fish & chips ever, opposite The Red Brick Pizza Company.
Weymouth, Portland Bill - climb the lighthouse!
Sandbanks a must on a sunny day! Lulworth Cove beautiful. 2 pubs in walking distance, ate at St Peters Finger twice great food even for the kids not the usual nuggets & chips!
Dave & Jo the owners are lovely friendly helpful people, as are all their managers & people on reception in the shop. Nothing was ever to much bother even when we needed a screw driver to put the bbq together! and have my sons rucksack posted back to me which he left in the games room!
Well stocked shop, with local meat produce from local butchers, burgers for the bbq were the best. Dave was on the grill at the weekends for breakfast, bacon & sausage rolls saved cooking!
Shower block & wash up area very clean, free hairdryers and music!
Kids loved the play ground, however another play area or bike track area for slightly bigger kids would be my suggestion for the future.
Lovely site will definitely be back next year and hopefully have already picked our pitch!

This is generally a good, well-run site. Reception is efficient and friendly. Pitches are of a good size and well-spaced. As most others have said, the toilet blocks and washing-up facilities are good. It is especially welcome not to have to keep pressing the button in the shower; you can actually control the flow and temperature of the water. There are two individual cubicles with basins and mirrors as well as a family bathroom containing a baby bath and changing mat.
There are a few drawbacks though. The toilet block closes for two hours from 11:30 until 1:30 for cleaning, which I find excessive. You are told that you can use the disabled loo when the others are closed but I found it locked. There is a message on the door saying that you must get the key from reception to use it. I hope the disabled are given a key for the duration of their stay.
There is only one small freezer for freeze blocks, which is inadequate. It was usually well nigh impossible to squeeze another block in.
There are varying opinions on here about the noise level. Some are not bothered by it but the A35, only a field away, is why I would not stay here again. If you are hoping for the peace of the countryside you will be disappointed. The noise doesn't even stop for long at night. In fact you notice it more at night when the site itself has gone quiet.
The shop is not well-stocked. You can usually be sure of getting milk - and bread as long as you don't mind the white, rubbery variety. But there is a good Spar just up the road in Upton if you don't want the trek to Tesco.
We stayed in the biggest field and the weather was awful - gales and rain battering us constantly. That didn't bother me - I love it in a tent in the rain. What I didn't like was having to wade through a quagmire to leave the field. There was no way out but through the mud so don't forget your wellies. Some vehicles had trouble getting through this too but managed in the end. I think that proper access tracks are needed.
If none of this bothers you, you might like to know that the nicest environment - especially if you have children - is in the two small fields on the right as you enter the site. They are hook-up pitches. They are sheltered and have hedges between pitches, and shrubs, making it an attractive place to be. The small children's play area is here too. The Manor field is also lovely but at the moment there is construction going on next door so I wouldn't want to be there just now. Maybe it will be finished by next Summer.
This is a great area to be in when it is raining as it is close to Poole with its many attractions. Splashdown, with fantastic flume rides, for example, is great. When the weather is good there are the beaches, of course, but also, just up the road is Upton Country Park which is beautiful and free -parkland, beautiful gardens and woodland walks.
If you have young children, do go across the field from the site to the Craft Centre, to visit the chap who calls himself a 'Gentleman of Fortune' and who will demonstrate his forge and what he makes in it as well as allow you to board his pirate ship and maybe raise the Jolly Roger on it. He is full of knowledge of piracy and life at sea in days of yore, and the two 11 year-olds with us were spellbound for a good hour and a half.

Overall a well-appointed pleasant site. Shop is fine and open long hours. Toilet blocks clean and pleasant, strangely there is a bucket of foul water you are asked to mop the shower with after use! At peak season, queues build up in washing-up areas.
Site boasts new playground, but nothing for kids to get excited about. Site staff/owners very helpful, but to be honest I think the site is a bit oversold
Decent food available in local pubs, lots to do in area to suit all interests whatever the weather. Purbeck area is especially fabulous.
The site is noisy throughout the night because of busy roads nearby. Constant congestion at entrance is caused by a barrier requiring a code.
Overall, site is fine, but in our opinion not as good as the 'blurb' claims.

Would recommend this site. Beautifully presented and well maintained. We are hoping to return again next year.
Stayed on the rally field adjacent to the entrance - very spacious and only gently sloping. Had no problems with noise during the evenings or from the nearby road. Some dogs were allowed off the lead and would recommend speaking to campsite owners if this is a problem. Owners were particularly helpful and willing to go the extra mile.
We were surprised how small the new playground was - more like the sort of climbing frame you would have in your back garden really. Occupied our 4 year old for 5 - 10 minutes but could do with more facilities. Had more fun going on rabbit hunts in the early evening - there were hundreds!
Toilet block was excellent and if you're an early bird (before 7am)you had the whole block to yourself. Very new and clean with a reasonable flow of hot water. Only drawback no baths, despite 'family bathrooms'. To be fair, baby baths were provided but not ideal for 3-4 year olds not used to showers.
The site could benefit from a larger freezer as we struggled to fit our ice packs in. Think most campsites have this problem. When full owner offered to put packs in the shop freezer out back. This was very kind but meant asking every time we needed to swap!
Pot washing area very good. Shop reasonably equipped and generally low priced. Open during the evening which was excellent when stocking up for morning provisions.
Some excellent local pubs - particularly 'The Bakers'. Close to Bournemouth and Poole - ideally placed for getting about. Monkey World is definitely worth a visit although pricey (£28 for 2 adults and a child).
Realise I've mentioned a few drawbacks, but would not prevent us from visiting again. Overall very impressed and unless your a grumblebug think you'd find it hard not to enjoy your stay here.

Just returned from our first ever family camping holiday. Due to the positive reviews and the site's own website we decided to visit Lytchett Manor.
On arrival we were met by friendly staff who personally showed us to our pitch. We had read a review that warned us that the first field was very close to the main road and traffic noise was a problem during the night.
On booking we had asked if we could have a pitch in any of the remaining fields to avoid this .At first they did take us to the field closet to the road! but after we had pointed this out were very happy to relocate us to a different field.
The only problem being that during the night you still hear the hum of the nearby bypass too much for us - may be we are light sleepers??
The shower and toilet block are very good, although a mop bucket was left to wipe over the floors after use - I struggle with this when in that when it has been wet the mop and water is so dirty all you end up doing is spreding germs and more mud across the floor, I changed the water on a few occasions but noticed that I was the only one.
Wasnt too sure what to expect on our first camping holiday. We had a great size pitch and our two children loved the play area and the thought that there were wild dear in the field next to our tent, this site is a great location to explore Dorset unless you are a light sleeper!

We needed a pitch for a couple of nights but unfortunately there was only space for the one night but as we hadn't booked sometimes that happens.
Plus remarks
The pitch was very flat and very well maintained , the staff were very helpful and very polite , there was a nice pub 5 minutes walk away that did great food , toilets showers were fine and the half past ten limit on noise was obeyed .
Minus remarks
We were in a field that was fenced with wire and the water supply although it was only 20 feet away from us was on the other side and we had to walk to the end of the fence to cross.
Although we only stayed for one night it was very enjoyable and we would recommend this site to everyone.

Just returned from a great week in Dorset and were not disappointed with choosing this campsite. From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome. The site was flat and very well maintained. It did seem to be full but wasn't overcrowded at all.The pitches were very large which meant no one was too close to their neighbour. Everybody seemed to stick to the 10.30pm quiet rule and no cars are allowed after 11pm which was great. The shower/toilet blocks were clean and we never had to queue.
The only niggle we had was that because it was busy the freezer for the ice packs was always full to the brim which meant that the blocks were never properly frozen. A larger freezer may be required. However because this facility was free we didn't want to make a fuss.
We are all looking forward to going back again next year.

The trip to South Lytchett Manor was the first camping trip our family had made for 12 years. Our son (aged 11) had felt deprived of such a holiday and seeing as we had had many enjoyable camping holidays with his younger sister, we decided it was time to give it a go again. Our party consisted of 4 adults, 1 child and 2 dogs. We chose South Lytchett Manor purely from the reviews left by previous visitors and I must say the site lived up to its reputation.
On arrival, we were met by friendly staff who gave us all the information we needed to make our stay enjoyable, down to reserving our choice of daily paper, and we were shown personally to our pitch.
The small toilet and shower blocks were clean and welcoming with fantastic hairdryers (very important!) and fresh flowers. The shower cubicles were always clean (a mop is provided for you to use after your shower - there was no feeling of walking into someone elses mess).
The games room is very well stocked with ideas for trips out/restaurants/pubs and the staff were always very helpful with any question asked - even checking on the web site if it was likely to stop raining!
Ideally situated for exploring the local area, excellent Tesco and Asda nearby too. Shell Bay is a beautiful beach and is dog friendly too.
Overall we would highly recommend this site from both a child, adult and dog perspective. The only improvement would be the weather - we chose the wetest week of the summer so far!

We have just returned from this site after a weeks stay.Due to the high number of positive reviews and the sites own high regard for itself we decided to make it our holiday destination.
This is a site that charges £31.50 per night for two adults and two kids so its clearly on the dear side, however we thought this along with a self praising website would give us that special place feeling.
First thing you see as you pass through the barrier is a filthy twin axle 'season pitcher' this does not give a very good first impression.
The layout is basically a road through the middle with camping pitches in three adjacent fields. This caused traffic to pass along the road past our pitch some of which clearly had no regard for the speed limit.
The showers were at best ok and did smell at times and were very heavily used with a queue a lot of the time. The washing up area is too small for the amount of campers and we had to queue many times for this as well. The music in the showers appears to be the local radio station.
All in all a reasonable site but spoilt by a poor layout and inadequate facilities for the amount of people on site along with a price tag way above its station.

We've just returned after spending 5 glorious days at this campsite. We too were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our large pitch. Later another member of staff asked if we were okay and even offered us his puncture repair kit, if their shop didn't stock it.(They did!)The toilet block was superb - always clean and I liked the professional hairdryers. Although I would have liked a socket for my straighteners! (I'm being fussy, I know!) The site is very well run and secure. There is plenty to do and see in the surrounding area. My only criticism of the site was that there was only 1 small freezer.I wished we had booked hook up as the weather was very hot and the freezer was so full of ice blocks, they didn't freeze. We will hopefully be returning next year for another great holiday. See you soon x
